First aid kit?
It's been a week since I got my car and for first time, I gave it some attention to learn more about the car. (Just been way too busy with work lately)
I noticed that I don't have the first aid kit under passenger seat. I remember seeing in one of the thread that some owners keep water bottle or owner's manual in the first aid kit box. I don't even have the box. So just wondering if it comes with the car or it's an accessory I need to purchase? Thanks. |

I think only the European cars come with the first aid box standard. I know Tischer BMW sells the box and bracket at a good price. Also, leatherz.com sells it: http://leatherz.com/Merchant2/mercha..._Code=Interior
I'm looking to put a pair of these in during the "off season". |

Excellent writeup, wrh3!
I installed mine last week. I put a third screw in the middle to keep it more rock solid, although I reckon it probably isn't necessary. |

Mine came with a first aid kit and warning triangle...Not sure if it came with the car from the factory of if the germans through it in there (since they are required in germany).

put mine in today
Great write-up! I ordered mine after seeing how cheap and easy they are to install.
I just got mine today and put them in. Took less than 15 minutes to put both passenger and drivers side in. I just put both seat all the way back and raised the front, which gave me plenty of working room, and I have a large frame. My seats are 8-way power M seats. The boxes are thin plastic making them a little flimsy. I'm going to glue in some felt type cloth material for a liner to quiet them down some. Plus I installed a weighted short shift knob, which is really nice. The added weight makes the shifts feel more positive and a little shorter throw since about 3/4" shorter. Bought them from ticsher bmw in MD with free shipping: Item: First aid box 2003 - 2007 Qty: 2 Item: Bracket 2003 - 2007 Qty: 2 Item: BMW M Style Weighted Short Shift Knob - 6 Spd. I thought about this too. I bought some 9"x12" felt sheets that have adhesive backing, just cut to size and peel and stick- available at WalMart

Thigh bolster won't adjust-Problem solved
Just finished installing two first aid boxes in my Z4 M Coupe and now I discover that the thigh bolsters will not slide adjust. I did install the center rear fastener. Could that be the obstruction?
Have any other M Coupe/Roadster folks had this same experience? I'm not happy about losing the thigh bolster adjustability :sad0147: I used 1/4 X 3/4 inch self tapping screws to secure the bracket to the seat frame. The two front screws were interfering with the thigh bolster free travel. Switching to a 1/4 X 1/2 inch screw should solve the interference problem and allow the thigh bolster to be adjusted. Installed the mounting brackets today using 1/4 X 1/2 inch self tapping screws and all is well. The thigh bolster now slides without interference. These storage boxes are a nice, inexpensive addition to the storage space deprived Z4 interior.

I drove over to Tisher's yesterday evening to pick up the first aid kt box. Interesting expierience, I didn't have the part number with me (my fault) and the guy at the parts counter didn't seem to understand that i was describing the BOX that the first aid kit is stored into. He tells me without a part number he cant find it. Finally another guy walks by and says yeah we have them pulls up the microfiche and shows him the BOX. He then says how many you want, i say just one, he says $24.99, i say are you sure there are folks that have been ordering them from you for around $12. He says thats the internet price, i cant sell it to you for that price, you can order it for that price over the internet. So we go back and forth, and i explain that he should be concerned about local customers too since there is a greater chance of them purchasing a vehicle not just parts over the internet (i live 5 miles away). So finally he asks how much do you want to pay? I say same price as everyone else, and he says ok but for now on you have to order over the internet for those prices. Is it me?? I dont understand the logic.
The best part was the drive home, i ask my 12 year daughter what she thought about it, she said dad i think he was just being lazy |

The whole idea behind internet ordering is that it's cheaper for the dealer to handle your order and they can pass that savings on to you. When you come in, you're waited on by a person rather than a computer, and the parts guy isn't working for free. The biggest expense for almost any business is typically their payroll - it's why job cuts are the most common method of budget reduction.

Agreed.
It's so much easier to purchase it online since you can research & find the exact part number on your own. Y'know the saying..."If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself." As hard working as the people at the parts counter are, sometimes they don't pay enough attention to detail like we do. When I ordered a Cargo Liner, I wasn't able to find it available online so I had to drag myself over to the stealers. The guy behind the counter didn't even know where to start looking, so I gave him the part number. Too bad Tischer didn't have it listed online, otherwise I would have ordered it through them in a heartbeat. |

There use to be a rule to support your local businesses or they may not be around much longer, I guess that no longer applies with the use of the internet. Cash and carry has a new meaning "click and deliver" thanks for your response |

Too bad they don't offer a click-then-pickup option. That would save on shipping costs, especially for yourself. Oh well...
Enjoy your boxes. It's really nice to have a little bit more storage space up front. |

Tischer Internet pricing
I paid $11.28 for the first aid box and $5.24 for the holder. I ordered two of each and paid $9.30 for UPS ground from Silver Spring, MD to Seattle, WA. No State sales tax. For us Washingtonians that comes to 8.9%. Of course we don't have any State income tax to complain about
Tischer didn't list the hardware required to install the holder so I had to research that and ended up making two trips to Tacoma Screw to obtain the correct fasteners. If I calculated my time and gasoline involved in getting the fasteners I would have been better off ordering everything from LeatherZ I also discovered that the boxs would not slide onto the holders far enough to engage the retaining clip. I solved this problem by grinding down the outside edges of the holder. Now the boxes easily slide onto the holder and lock onto the clip. The boxes can also be easily removed.

http://www.kuninfelt.com/cfiles/cr_prestofelt.cfm Applied the sticky backed felt to the bottom, sides, and back of the box. It takes one 9"X12" sheet per box at $1.50 per sheet. Things should stay nice and quiet now with nothing rattling around in the box.
