Faded ///Ms
My ///M badges are all fading.
Before I blow $15 a piece on Bimmian stickers, does anyone have a different solution? I was thinking of repainting them by hand, but my hand's not as steady as it used to be. Not that I'm hurting for money, but $15 seems a little steep for a 1" square sticker. |

Just get the replacements and be done with. They will last at least another 7-8 years (probably longer than most of us owning the car). Or put out a feeler and see if anyone has some for sale as many people debadged their cars.

Colorforms
Finally got around to putting on the ///M stripes I got from rovert over on M3forum.net.
They're individual colored strips of vinyl, not ink on white vinyl, so hopefully the colors will last a while. You can get enough from rovert to do 10 badges for less than you would pay for 1 new badge. Easy to apply, and the colors are gorgeous. They're sized for the rear badge, but about 25% long so you have edges to hold them by when you stick them on. To do the side badges, which are smaller, trim 0.06" off the width of the dark blue strip and stick it on using the existing stripe as a guide. Then stick the other 2 strips butted up against the dark blue and trim all the way around. Actually ends up filling the indent in the badge better than the stock sticker did. |

Just ordered a few sets of these, and I received them very quickly. FYI, he sells them for $5/set, and 1 set = enough for 2 badges.
I thought 1 set = 1 badge, so I bought 3 ... now I have enough for 6! |

Just as well, since I toasted 2 before getting the side badges right. I cut twice and measured once. I think it's the other way round. Sorry I don't have pics. Clean all badges with alcohol first Do the rear first. It's dead simple. The stripes are longer than they need to be so you can hold the ends and lay them over the existing sticker. Run a tooth pick across the top and bottom to push the ends down into the detent in the badge and then run a brand new Exacto(tm) along the top and bottom to cut off the excess. To do the sides, trim 0.06" off the width of the dark blue strip while it's still on the backing. Peel and stick it over the existing dark blue middle stripe. Then, without cutting first, peel and stick the other 2 against the sides of the middle one. Run the toothpick all the way round all 4 sides. Trim around all 4 sides. Buy extras so you can take a Mulligan.

Great advice on the side badges, I didn't notice they were smaller than the rear until I ran out of daylight of course I'll be fixing that today
Also, don't give your extra badges to this guy: pic yanked from m3post |

I bought a similar eBay badge for my front grill.
The light blue stripe is actually more of a sea foam green and after a couple of months the "chrome" is fading to white on the M.

My rovert stickers still look fresh after 2 years.
One corner is peeling up on my rear badge, as you say, from washing stress. Plan to stick it back down with a dot of glue.

Buy plenty of spares (they're dirt cheap) and see post #12 above for cutting instructions.

Mine wasn't faded but i wanted to change up a little bit to the German flag colors. I ordered the overlay from Rovert and they seem to hold up very well. One issue i had was the width of the strips as the colors were shown thru the top layer. Not sure if the ///M stripes are different on the e46 but i didn't like having them overlapped so i also cut them to match the width of our stripes. I actually screwed up couple strips; emailed Rovert to buy some replacement and he sent me some replacement free of charge. Highly recommended.
