Soft Top Glass broke!!!
My motor has gone out on my soft top and while waiting to fix it , I let my son use the car. When he put the top down manually, he somehow broke the back window. According to getbmwparts.com, the glass is $483. Has anybody have any experience replacing the glass?

I've been told that a broken rear window requires a new soft top. I hope that is wrong though!

I just went through the TIS.
There is no procedure to just replace the glass. It refers to the 'top cover with integrated glass' (the outer layer). Infer what you will from that... |

Hopefully your son has a good job... Sorry to hear about the glass.

You could get the glass and have an upholsterer change it but after all said and done you'll be better off just buying a new top off of ebay. They show up all the time. I sold mine for $450 shipped, complete assembly including the undiagnosed motor a few months ago.

I see 1 used grey top in Ohio on ebay right now with a starting bid of $135 and no bids yet. 5 days left. They want local pickup though. Has the defroster rear window. Just the canvas and glass, no bows or motor.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USED-CONVERT...0663ee&vxp=mtr Plenty of new aftermarket tops from $485 and up and a couple used hard tops too. Where are you in NC. I'm near Fayetteville. I have a nice 30x50 shop and enough tools to make Tim the toolman Taylor jelous LOL. I have a 9k lift too and would be happy to meet up with you and give you a hand. If you don't have a garage to keep it in, you're welcome to park it in my shop to keep the interior dry until you get her fixed too. Hell, I'm retired and have nothing better to do. Might be up for a road trip to pick up the top in OH if you win it too. |

Unfortunately I am still trying to find a resonable way to get my missing back glass problem resolved. I have seen non OEM suppliers of Z4 tops advertising replacement tops relatively cheap- $500. Has anybody tried to replace their tops ( just the canvas over the existing frame)? My gut says I will ahve to have a shop do it. But do these tops fit ok?
