Z4 Spare Wheel/Tire

For anyone considering a spare tire in the trunk instead of other options out there, here is some info. This is the setup I went with.

135/80/R17: 36110306541
Steel Wheel: 36116750007
Wheel Valve-Stem: 36121116326

I purchased all the parts from Tischer and took it all over to the local Firestone shop and they assembled all the parts for $8. I also have a 15" Craftsman breaker bar with a 17mm socket, 1.5 ton Torin jack from Walmart and a bag from Harbor Freight. Cost for all of that was roughly $50.

Here are some photos…

Your stock wheels are 16"?
What size tire on them.

I have the same spare tire for my Z4M.

225/50ZR16 The spare is slightly taller. In the event of a flat it would need to go up front.

Yeah, I had that one on order originally through Tischer. Waited about 3 weeks before hearing back that it was not available any longer. Not sure if that has changed, but this was the only one they had that was remotely close. I also checked locally and that size wasn't available through local Continental distributors. But, if you can find the 125, it is the perfect match.

135 will work, just can't run it on the rear. I did some testing to see how the car handled and felt with it on and I honestly didn't notice any difference. That was at low, back road speeds though.

I'll have to verify when I get home. I looked it up on getbmwparts.com and it showed up the same as I remembered it from several months ago when I ordered it. At the time, it was showing up on their website, but it was not available to them. I confirmed with Jason at the time and he couldn't find no PN for that size. And the PN I had was for a deleted product.

The part I posted is in the system.

Put in 36 12 0 418 839:
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214760

LeatherZ.com sells the kit but he might sell a tire if someone wants it.

Cool, if they have it then that's the ideal way to go. Thanks for sharing.

Ron, I had a spare tire for my '05 3.0 and just upgraded to a '06 M Roadster. As I understand it, the spare will not work, correct? Is there a spare that can be purchased that will work with the M (both front and rear if need be)?

What wheel and size tire do you have. The wheel for the 125 and 135 use the same wheel.

The one in number 1 is what I have 135/80/17 in my Z4M.

The one in number 1 should be a 125/80/17.

I don't have a 15mm spacer. I thought I tried both wheels.
I'll check when I have the wheels off.

Maybe jmillet will explain which wheel or both.

I have the space saver spare sold by LeatherZ that they say will not fit on a Z4M. I purchased a 15mm spacer and lug bolts so the spare will fit on the front and clear the caliper. The spare fits on the rear without having to use a spacer.
It fits very snugly in the rear compartment.

Hi, have you fitted the tire on the car to be sure? I'm also looking for a space-saver tire for my Z4M coupe. Strange that LeatherZ wouldn't state that the tire can work if a spacer is purchased. Thanks!

i used the spare off a 5-series for a while, which also fits but didn't like the loss of trunk space. since then i purchase a mobility kit by continental (sold through tire rack). fingers crossed..

Yes; twice. First time without spacer it wouldn't clear the front caliper. Fits rear fine.
Second time with 15mm spacer and longer lug bolts it clears the front caliper and fits just fine.
Haven't had to use it in an emergency situation
