Got my first "No front license place" ticket in Chicago...

Last year when I bought the car, the dealer asked me if I wanted them to drill the front bumper and install a front plate on it. The previous owner did not have one on and I sure as hell wasn't about to destroy the front bumper just because some moron politicians in Illinois do not get rid of this ridiculous and frivolous law which is only meant to generate tickets.

Anyway, yesterday I drove into the city for a a date and made the mistake of parking on the street instead of using the valet. Result?

$50 dollars for "Code: 0976160A Read and front plate required - Missing front plate" and this photo courtesy of the thieves of the city of Chicago.

You should install the Rho-plate. Better than the go-mini in my opinion, less parts to assemble and more mounting angles. I have one although it's not currently mounted since I don't drive the car much these days. Let me know if you're interested in it.

I have already contacted my state local representatives because there has been some efforts to try and remove this law, but it always get's shot down at the subcommittee level before it even has a chance to go to the floor to be voted on.

Last time it was shot down with a vote of 4-3. There have been studies that have shown the state of Illinois would save 1 million dollars by not having to produce an extra license plate due to savings on aluminum costs, but apparently the state police are against it.

in NJ for sure but each violation is still on record, so by the 3rd time you get pulled and the cop notices you are a repeat offender, they are pretty frustrated at that point and chances are you will get nailed for other things, ie tints, +5mph over, etc.

In Chicago it isn't. Wife got a tint ticket in the city. Not big, only $25 but we had to fix it and pay up. They're in your pockets for everything around here.

I got one in Iowa, they say fix it, but you still have to pay the court costs, which is like $50 itself. So lame.

Depends on the county. I got a front-plate ticket in Polk, went to court, told the judge that the car was sold in a state with no front plate requirement, and that I wasn't comfortable having a hole drilled in the bumper, but that I always had the front plate in the car, and could produce it on request.

He said I could go, and I never paid a dime.

out in west texas by the border where i'm based, cops are extremely strict about running an affixed front plate (no more throwing it up on the dashboard). i've been given a warning five separate times in the last ten months now and it just gets really inconvenient, not to mention it's a $158 fine with no fix-it option.

i just recently affixed a rho plate holder and i think it looks pretty decent:

^thanks. i elected to go with the rho plate precisely because of the many ways it could be adjusted. I think it looks better canted to follow the lines of the front fascia.

location i'd stopped at was an abandoned gas station out north from where i'm based and i was there to sample shots for pic of the month

If you're gonna drive/park in Chicago often you're gonna want a front plate. Even meter maids can give improper display tickets. FWIW $50 is cheap, the front plate ticket I got last Nov. was $75, must appear in court.

What a bunch of bs. Your WIFE got a tint ticket? If I were a cop, the only tint tickets I'd give would be to ricers.

Every time I have had to step into a courtroom in Iowa (even in Polk county where I used to live) you have to pay court costs even if you are found not guilty. If you got off scott free, then well done, I am not quite sure how that happened.

$176 in WA. What a joke. Cop was real smug about it too. I didn't even know it was a law in WA. I've never been pulled over for it. Looks like I need to get a Rho-Plate. Anyone seen this one installed --> http://www.skenedesign.com/FPBracket/index.shtml?
