F1 eight engine rule
Can someone please provide some clarification on this. I know we briefly discussed in another thread but I am still a bit confused. Alonso supposedly began using his eighth engine @ Monza but now for Singapore he is switching back to the engine he used @ SPA.
So basically you can reuse an engine as many times as you like as long as it doesn't fail? Are teams allowed to work on the previously used engines and in essence "rebuild" them to be used again? It doesn't take much to confuse me. |

they are def allowed to use an older engine but im not sure if they can touch them. most swtiched to a new engine in Monza since its a very demanding track for the engine

Has anyone but Sauber (De La Rosa) been penalized for using engine #9? |

28.4 e) says it all.
Basically, once an engine is used and then "replaced" it can't be re-used for a race or qualifying. Perhaps they can practice with an older engine and save the one remaining race engine for qualifying and the race itself? Maybe they've found a clever way around the restrictions. |

there isn't much they can do besides non-movable parts like spark plugs or lubrications....

that brings more management and thinking into racing....not just floor and drive the engine like you stole it....when to conserve and when to push.....

At least LH still has a fresh engine after only one turn at Monza.

Just look at those 458 kept caught on fire and had a recall....
neh....sometimes its just a bad day...like a gear box failure....cooling radiator issues...etc etc...that cooked the engine to death.... like Fernando's problem in Malaysia...broken gearbox which had problems when down shifting...which he had to blurp some throttle to force it downshift....then eventually caused the engine blew....
