Actual top speed of M Coupe/Roadster

Couldn't find this with a search...

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever taken the limiter off their M Coupe/Roadster? What's the actual top speed? If the 3.0si is capable of running at 155 mph, what's the M?

Best guess is that with stock gearing and its drag coefficient, the Z4M can hit low 170s.

There is a 300km/hr M driver module. Though actual GPS speed is not confirmed.

I would suspect it would max out around 280-290km gps.. that's just an estimation.

Had 155 mph on the speedo last weekend. So actual was prob like 145 mph. I have my limiter turned off and had a lot of RPM's left. Cant tell you the exact RPM in 6th as my hands were full It had more speed left in it but wasnt gonna push it.

It's not the cops I'm scared of. Could you imagine striking a deer at that speed. Oooo. Not good. Yes I love the 9500, how's your V1 working out?

I've hit 250km/h before.

Don't think I'll ever contest the speed limits of this car again anytime soon, but it's bloody hell ass stable at that speed.

Things really start to zip past you at that speed.

V1 is kind of annoying while driving through town.. even on the intelligent mode, but it has saved me a few times on the highway already. I find myself speeding a lot more since I got it... not anything close to 155 though! Haha.

With Hamann tune and limiter removed I've had a GPS Speed of 283 KHP which translates to 176 MPH.

Yeah, 150mph is about my limit, and I've done that maybe 4 times in my 50 years on the planet. At that speed, you're approaching the limits of what you can do when variables present themselves, even on an straight, empty road. I hit an opposum in KY once when I was a kid, doing about 120 in my brand new Honda Prelude, and it was quite sobering how quickly it was over. By the time it registered that something was in the road, I was a half mile past impact.

Gear wise, the manual says in 6th gear it's good for 24.3mph per 1000rpms so multiply 24.3x8 and you have your topspeed if there were no drag, had enough power and you had the balls to do it.

Theoretical top speed in 6th gear @ 8000 RPM with no drag would be 201.35 based on this calculator: http://www.kabamus.com/garage/gears.html

Was just curious how a drag coefficient of 0.35 factors into the equation, but 170s sounds right...

So I tested this out in Forza 3 on the Xbox. Highest speed I could get on a stock setup with the M Coupe was 173mph in 5th, this wasn't quite at redline and I couldn't get anything more from 6th gear, edit: Taking into account the ~3% speedo error, an actual car probably would have shown about 178mph. With level 1 intake and exhaust with maximum weight reduction I got to about 180.

I don't have to imagine, I remember coming across a slightly graphic set of photos on Flickr of someone that did exactly that.
