E85/E86 is "classic" now?

Just noticed that E85/E86 Z4 has moved to the "Classic" section on realoem.
So we've got classic BMW officially now?

And what does this mean for parts availability from now on?

Happened few months back.

Start hoarding hard to find parts. Parts that are shared with other models are less of a concern.

My Z3 went on the classic side of Realoem years ago. BMW still makes most all the parts for it.

Mine will be 20 years old next year (18 years with me) - but the relatively high miles on it mean it'll never be worth much over here in the UK, so any major repairs (or a little accident) would see it written off

In Canada, a car becomes eligible for a classic license plate once it is 25 years old. Is this rule universal, or does it differ in the US, the UK, and other countries?

To get road tax exemption a classic has to be over 40 years old in the UK.

But insurers use a different definition, and each insurer has their own rules, so some accept it as a classic if it’s rare and over 15 years old, others only over 20, 25, 30 years old.

But there’s no government identifier on the registration plate to show it’s officially a classic.

Can you still repair it and keep it? Like with a salvage title in the US.

I don't even have full coverage on my coupe, only liability and theft/uninsured driver. Don't care what insurance will say, I'll try to keep the car as long as I can

Ugh... what makes me feel uneasy - are these threads popping up more and more where folks are asking where to buy certain parts (like this upper radiator hose that's been backordered for a while already).. I can't just go and buy every part that's still available

I was reading though that Mercedes can make and sell you parts even for their cars built in 1910
So I'm wondering if BMW does something similar with their classic cars?

In most cases you can…as long as it’s not in the A or B write off group, as they’re only allowed to be stripped for parts and/or crushed.

Haggerty Insurance, in the US, has an option that allows you to keep the car if it's totaled out. At the very least you have it for parts.
