Z4 Ignition Coil Replace, Connector Not Unlocking
Hi All - my first post to the forum, so apologies if I'm asking repeat questions.
I purchased a used 2007 Z4 3.0i with 100K miles recently. Changed the oil/filters successfully and also the spark plugs. After startup had a "Service Engine Soon" warning light and read the code as P0304 (misfire cylinder 4). Determined that next step is likely replacing the ignition coil so decided to replace all 6 as I don't think it has been done previously for this car. My biggest problem is that some of the connectors don't "eject" from the ignition coil when you flip up the top locking mechanism. 4 are OK, 2 are stuck. I've tried the "gently wiggle" method but doesn't budge. Is there a locking tab/pin/other that is keeping the connector locked in? Right now the connector for cylinders 3 and 4 are not unlocking, these are the tightest access as well just to make it more difficult. Biggest concern is making sure that I don't damage the connector or wires while trying to get these out. Any help is appreciated. |

There is nothing locking it other than the clasp.
Flip clasp all the way up? Yank it out. Flip clasp not all the way up and can’t flip it further? Put a screw driver or something round horizontally through the holes and use two hands to muscle it all the way up. |

Found that if you squeeze in the sides of the clasp as you lift it up, it helps to push out the connector. Was able to get all 6 ignition coils replaced easily, and the code cleared.
Thanks for the advice! |
