Interesting video. He's wrong about it being based on the X7. Info has repeatedly said that the X8 will be the first BMW built from the ground-up in the modern era, not sharing any CLAR.

looks like my time with BMW is coming to a close. it was a fun ride (pardon the pun) but all good things comes to end. cayenne coupe will probably be my next car, especially if there is an electric version of it.

The tiny little "kidney" grills are now a thing of the past and really look dated. No sense living in the past, everything changes, no point fighting it. I hated the appearance of the current X5 when I first saw one, now I own one and love it.

I would not. The current X5/X7 with M-Sport and extended Shadowline or X5M look really nice to me and much better than the X8 as imagined here.
In general, I agree with Frank Stevenson here (iX design review since I put a deposit on one) that BMW designers are making the front too busy. I think the X8 shown here looks worse than even the iX. Hopefully BMW does not start copying Lexus style design... |

A major issue so many like to forget when speculating about BMW new models is, BMW doesn’t make “full M” full size vehicles. To make a full M version in a full size luxury vehicle, they will ruin the sole purpose of these large luxury vehicles with a incredibly harsh ride. In the end you get a full size vehicle that does nothing well. It’s a series of compromises that go too far and harsh. This is why BMW established a real genuine M light versions like the M50i still listed under the M brand and not an M performance package like they use to do. They put the “M” on the back of the car like the M760. BMW obviously knew they needed a performance vehicle that still had a luxurious ride when they made this switch in 2020 with the X5/X7 M50i, M850i, M550i, etc…line. Just look at how BMW positioned the M50 line when building a car on their virtual builder. It’s sends a clear message they are pushing the entire M50 line to the “M” side of the designation yet still offer a “M-Performance” trim line for the rest of the line.
I don’t believe the X8 will ever be designed to have anything more than the established M50i top performance level. Last edited by MystroX5; 06-20-2021 at 01:06 PM.. |
