Thoughts on these Z's + other questions
Hey All,
After my Z4MR was totaled by a reckless driver back in '15, I've been hopping around (Cayman, Elise, and now Corvette) trying to find something I loved as much as the Z. However, I find myself constantly thinking about the Z and now have decided it's time to come back. With that said, I'm debating the coupe vs roadster routes. I'd like to have the option to track and it appears even with roadster + hardtop that might not be possible for some tracks/organizations (without a rollbar/cage). Is this a true statement? What are y'all thoughts on the below coupe? Seems the pricing is fair according to cargurus, however given the mileage & accident back '09, I'm note quite sure... https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invent...ting=232279735 Also, I know this isn't a Z3 forum but any thoughts on this Z3MC would also be greatly appreciated. https://www.mcoupebuyersguide.com/li...istingID=18420 Looking for something local (California) Thanks in advance! |

The z4m seems way overpriced for
1: mileage 2: color combo 3: accident history The z3m looks great in Estoril. In my experiences Less $$$ maintaining an s52 over the 54. Looks sweet as hell. Won’t go down in value. I love my z4mc even with all its quirks. |

Considering you already had a Z4M, I would go with that Estoril Z3M Coupe. Perfect color combo and the price is right. Sure, on the track it will be a slightly slower than the S54 but who cares, will still be great fun, stiff and only appreciate in value.

From my ownership experience, if I were in the market for a mid-mileage //M (or any S54 powered car) I would be particularly focused on what exhaust hub and bearing work has been done on the engine. Any car in the 60K mileage zone will need these services done (for peace of mind) and each carries a price tag of at least $2K at an indy workshop. That's a significant percentage of the purchase price of mid-mileage Ms these days. My $.02 Hope you find a car soon, and welcome back!

I love my BSM coupe but stay away from over 100000 mile car! Steering rack and roll bar is slightly more extreme on coupe but not a huge difference. That 20k mile coupe looks pretty sweet and its been for sale for a while. Throw them an offer. I overpaid for mine as it only had 12k miles two years ago. If ur keeping it a while its worth it.

If you are wanting to track the car you probably should stay with a coupe. I have a buddy that races a Honda 2000 and I was talking about getting my roadster on a track and he said the BMW z series roadsters have to have a cage in them. Why I'm not sure but that's why he bought a 2000 rather than the Z3 he was looking at.

Thanks all for the comments! I'll skip on the black z4m and focus my search for a coupe rather than roadster.
I checked out the z3m coupe today, and unfortunately it didn't live up to anywhere near the memory of how I remembered the z4m was. I'm not sure if I'm romanticizing the memories of the Z4M or if the z3m (to me) was truly that far off, but when I stepped back into the Vette I was pretty happy with the decision I made. Search continues on for a Z4MC which hopefully brings back the tingly feelings... |
