Door Pull Handle Peeling fix?

I searched a bit but I didn't really find a thread that discusses a fix to the door pull covering peeling. It's pretty unsightly and I know it's a common problem. Has anyone done a DYI fix or found a affordable way to replace it? Pictures would be awesome.

Replacing the entire door panel or even just the armrest just isn't worth the price to me. I was thinking maybe I would just peel it all off and leave it like that.

I seen the steering wheel cover peeling threads. There's a couple interesting options there. Buy a replacement cover from bmw for $120, buy an 3rd party alcantara cover for $50 or wrap in carbon fiber for $20 plus some extra labor.

Good idea.

OP - what's the $50 alcantara option? Just bought some carbon fiber but planning to get a Performance wheel and would like the trim to match.

Cheers

Yea i guess i'll just peel it. Maybe i was overthinking it heh

Here is the $53 Alcantara option....I just ordered one of these steering wheel covers actually. I am not particularly good with making things pretty so i figured i would go the easy route rather than do the CF wrap.

Thanks!

I'm trying the CF wrap first ($10) and then getting doing Coby Wheel alcantara wrap. I wonder if the FCPEuro trim will match the standard Coby Wheel material.

FYI - started to peel off the door handle material and it's not the easiest. Trying to think off a 'goo-be-gone' solution for a more effective removal. Thoughts?

hmm it might be more effective. I might be paranoid but I am hesitant to use any chemicals for fear of discoloring either the nearby leather or the door pull itself. But yea last night i started peeling too and it was a slow process. I think I spent 20 mins on it and was half done with one door pull heh

I dunno might need to use some chemical though. Maybe some drops of goo be gone on a washcloth and could even cover up the leather with painter's tape or something I guess. I was noticing that as I peeled it off...what I uncovered didn't look the same as what had already peeled before. I think there is a little glue residue that needs to be cleaned off. It's gonna be a total pain to peel the coating that goes down into the handle. ah well better than spending $XXX and having it happen again in 3-4 years

I bought the 3rd party alcantara cover and installed it...i don't like the way it looks though..so I guess I am shelling out for the real deal....i was really kicking myself cuz when I replaced the steering wheel cover I scratched the airbag cover. So fixed one problem and created another damn me
