Using Audio CD

Does the battery drains quickly if I play an audio cd with the engine OFF?

Not only the audio but the various systems onboard seem to drain quite a bit of current when awake. Fresh battery should do the job but if its half way charged you may end up in the shit. Did it myself couple of times not even with the stereo on.

yes, the amp in the stereo is a high draw on the battery.

Worse, you'll have people pointing and laughing at you for using an Audio CD.

I wouldn't do it for extended periods of time, but running the stereo for 30 minutes isn't going to drain the battery.

As I recall when I first got mine I tried to rip some CDs to the hard drive with the engine off and the electronics would shut off before the CD was done. I got "increased battery discharge" warnings for a couple weeks after if I let it sit with electronics on - apparently it had been sitting at the dealer. Those went away after a while - not 100% sure if the battery charge caught up or I just quit trying to use the radio with the engine off. Months later when I updated the NAV maps it took a couple hours and I kept it on a battery charger and didn't have any issues.
