Have you considered the water-pump? The bearings usually seize between 100,000-120,000 miles and usually I change mine no later than 90,000 just as a preventive measure, or 10 years, whichever comes first. I'm about due (10 years). RTAB (rear trailing arm bushing) and FCAB (Front Control Arm Bushing) are consumables and should be replaced at 60,000 miles. I just did my FCAB at 48K (again, 10 years) and will likely tackle the RTABs sometime early next year. Most of these are actually fairly easy to do but TIME CONSUMING if you don't have a lift. Obviously if you track every $$$ spent, you'll quickly find that owning a BMW is true to its acronym: Bring My Wallet. This MZ4 Coupe is probably the last BMW I'll own (well, and the wife's 335D but I don't really consider that owning it since I get MAYBE 1/10th the seat time she does). In fact, this is probably the last car I'll own, period. Just seems much more logical to keep leasing a new plug-in electric every 3-4 years.

Thanks, for a 9 year old car things haven't been too bad - only slightly above expectation. I do plan on getting to the water pump this year, the FCAB and RTAB looked OK upon inspection - but also are on the list. Otherwise the car has been largely refreshed and begs to be driven.

Begs to be driven indeed. I feel guilty sometimes about the miles I'm NOT putting on the car. The visceral experience of driving the MZ4 is so much different than anything BMW has built in the last 10 years. Hard to find something NEW today that would even remotely be similar.
Gosh I sound OLD.

I'm in - past due for a Z4M meetup in the area. All I can find is M3 douche-bro meetups and I know there are plenty of locals lurking here. |
