DIY Request: Valve Cover Gasket s54
Does anyone have the TIS or a DIY for changing out the valve cover gasket? I have a friend I normally do mechanical stuff with but I was just wanting to see if I could do it.
I searched the forums but couldn't find anything. Thanks!

Dude Yes! Thank you Slick. Should I go ahead and change out the spark plugs too since I'm there? I'm at 87k. Not sure when they were done last.

You can do plugs anytime without removing the valve cover.
They are accessible under the trim cover. But, if they have never been done; absolutely change them. At the very least pop one out and have a look. At that mileage I'm surprised that coil packs haven't also started to go.

Have you checked the valve clearances?
Valve cover gasket is part of the job, and I always replace the plugs since I have to remove them anyway.

Thanks Ian. I'll check em out.
Stick. At 90k I was going to go to a shop and have a valve adjustment done. I was just going to do the valve cover gasket myself just to have something to do.

I agree with StickMon, hold off on the gasket until the valves are adjusted, it will be replaced at that time.
