Basically if it ain't broke, don't fix. For others there are a few different reasons. you can keep the OE headers with CATs & put the resonator in to eliminate the rear CATs. = absolutely no issues; no wires to extend, no sensor placement issues & better performance by eliminating one set of CATs. for me I dont want to cut up my OE section 1. I want to be able to restore the car back to OE condition when the time comes. Its an easy, economical alternative to buying an expensive Euro section 1 There has definitely been some flow design work done on the DKF pieces. For 1 it eliminates that huge expansion funnel section before the CATs. The one person that has this system installed reports he definitely felt the difference, but we all know how accurate butt dynos are. The DKF exhaust is really flow designed as complete header back system. When the GB for the rear section comes out, that is when the true performance benefits will be evident. That's my ultimate goal and is the other reason for getting this piece at a killer GB discount.

I'd feel a lot better if we had a couple more as a buffer for this price.

Update.... test kit on the car
I'm on the run, so will leave these here for you now and add some comments later.
Overall it went really well; clearances and alignments are spot on.

inTgr8r: in your write-up can you indicate whether its necessary to remove the x-pipe or if you just did so for pics. I think some bolts holding that in place are one-time use bolts.
Oh yeah, how's the Fabspeed header install going? Last edited by GriffBrew; 04-28-2013 at 07:10 PM.. |

I find it much easier to take that plate off though. The top bolt is a real tough location to unfasten while on the car. I find it much easier to remove the rear cans then take the rest of the exhaust off in one piece. You are correct, those bolts on the plate are listed as one time use. However, I have used mine several times over without issue. JMO but I don't think that plate gets a lot of stress. The front plate under the engin....... I definitely replace those if I take the plate down.

Why did the original GB with the entire system regress to just to a GB for just the section 1 kit? I think this has been covered, but will the later sections be covered in another separate GB? Seems odd to not just have everything in one go.

The original GB fell through because of fabricator issues.
It forced DKF to regroup and take baby steps with this first offering of the section 1 kit. ....the rear section is also not quite ready for production, DKF is looking at a couple of updates for it.

5 DAYS left for a one time production group buy. Dont be left out! If I was smart I'd buy two or three more as I know someone is going to want these down the road after production is long over with.

& There's a market for this kit that most people haven't considered. For people who dont want to change out OE headers, relocate sensors etc. This is a great solution. Just pop in the kit with resonator and eliminate the 2nd CAT bottleneck. No O2s to move and an instant boost in performance.

Theoretically it makes sense, but I'd still want to see dynos of this. It just feels like having the restriction on the headers would be worse. I doubt that we'll see anybody dyno this, but it would be good to know. I may just be doing this install without headers, depending on funds between now and receipt of the section 1, but I won't be dynoing either so we may never know....

I dont think there is much doubt that headers would be the best solution. I'll probably run this way for a while myself to see what it's like.

I'm in.
300 cell, coated. Definite. gearhead1 I'm going to pair these up with the fruits of another GB (Stromung exhaust) and run 'em for awhile before I pull the trigger on headers. This takes away a few headaches I've had around the O2 relocation, etc. |
