Apex wheels, which tires?
Well, my apex wheels just arrived today and I was wondering which tires should I run with them. So my fronts are 18x9 et42 and rears are 18x10 et25. I was thinking about running Hankook RS3... 265/35 up front and 285/35 rear. Will it fit? If not, which tires should I run? AD08? Star-specs? NT-05? I don't want anything less than 255 up front.

Track only or do you plan on doing a bunch of street driving on them ?
I would say go 245/40/18 in the front, 275/35/18 in the rear. If you're going to daily drive the tires or frequently drive them on the street then go with the Nitto NT05, a great tire that can be driven daily, but still hold it's own at the track. If you're using these as track wheels only and only driving them to the track then go with the Nitto NT01.

I'm planning to use these wheels mostly at the track. I wouldn't say solely dedicated to the track since I cannot carry an extra set of wheels with me. I have to drive from home to the track and back home. The closest track would be around two hours away from here... and I usually drive three hours to get to Willow Springs, Chuckwalla... and other racetracks.

You can probably get away with the NT01 or Toyo R888. I'm in a similar position when our trailer isn't available and am going with the NT01s. I've been running NT05 on the street for the past 2 years and love the tire, but on the track I'm finding the need for more grip over the need to drive 8-10k miles on a set of tires, hence moving to the NT01 on my track wheels.

How deep? I'm running -2.0 front, -1.8 rear.
I kinda melted up the front and rear of my Sumitomo HTR Z IIIs my last few sessions on the track (instructors go a long way to improving smoothness and speed ). Wear was a bit more toward the outside edge and more toward the outside middle (not the very middle which would probably mean too much air). No rollover. Running 39/39 hot, and I asked my instructor and I was not overdriving the tires. Guess it's tire to buy a combination tire probe pyrometer/IR gun to keep track of tire and brake temps (best tool from what I read for checking pressure and alignment settings and ensuring the brakes aren't entering the danger zone Hack and Lucid speak about). Maybe I need to take the OP's route and get a set of track wheels/tires rather than melting the hell out of my street tires too. $$$!!! |

I think I'm going with the Hankook RS3s, 265/35/18 and 285/35/18! RS3s doesn't run wide at all. To run 265 up front, I think I have to run at least -3.3 degree camber! Well, I'm going to pull the trigger today and I'll let you guys know what's what and how meaty my new set will look! This addiction is more expensive than any other illicit drug.

I'm running -3* camber up front with 8.5" width wheel ET+30 and 245 NT05's, and it's already rubbing the fender liner. I think 255's might fit with -3* or more of camber, but it also depends on wheel sizing/offset.
As for my rears, I'm running -2.2* camber with 10.5" width wheel ET+22 and 275 NT05's, and the rear passenger side rubs the fender lining @ Laguna turn 6 every single time. My rear fenders are rolled and ever so slightly flared too |

I run 255/35 up front with my TE37 and offset is 40... no rubbing, no problem. if I fit 265 and want to run more neg camber I think a 5mm spacer is needed with the arc8

If these fit non-m with camber, I'd be most interested in your TE37's =)

I think they should fit no problem up front. I'll let you know once they're ready!

If you're talking about 8.5" fronts, then they'll fit guaranteed. Because I used to have LE37's on my E46 325Ci, which were 8.5" fronts ET+38, and they fit both the 325 and the Z4M

Cuz you're THAT dropped? I plan on running 255's on my 3.0si which as you know has even less clearance. Wheels are 8.5 et42 but I think I'll be able to pull it off with 5mm spacer & -2.0 camber

Game-plan changed... gonna run NT05, because it's just out of this world cheaper than other brands. I was researching and everything was approx. 1k or more... and NT05 I'm getting them for 734 shipped. No-brainer. If it's good, I'll keep them, if it's not great, then I'll use them for street.

I've been enjoying NT05's as road/track dual-purpose tires
That's why I suggested them to Charles hehe Naw, it's cuz my front wheel offset makes it so that 245's are already cutting it very close to rubbing the fender. For sure it's already rubbing the black plastic fender lining a bit. I just wouldn't want to buy a set of 255's and find out they rub That would really suck... |

You really gotta go for the 255 front. The car needs the extra grip up front and the bonus is that the 255 tire rub less then the 245. Our cars can actually take a very aggressive offset. I am running a 255/35/18 front tire on a 9.5" Apex ARC-8 with a +30 offset and I don't get much rubbing at all. The major limiting factor with the front tires on our cars is the tire diameter. The 255/35/18 has a smaller diameter then the realitively fat 245/40/18. Granted my suspesion is pretty stiff (525lb springs up front) but my car is also pretty low.

I'm already running 255/35/18 up front and it grips just fine. Problem is I have no idea how the nt05 run (wide or narrow), so I decided not to risk with 265/35... and they don't make 255/35/18s. I will report back as soon as I get them out in the track @ LVMS later this month!
