One more for magnaflow (with vid and part numbers)
Hi All,
Like many others I wasn't willing to shell out a grand for a set of aftermarket mufflers. Through some trial and error, I sucessfully got some maganflow cans and tips installed and couldn't be happier. I had these fabbed up with flanges so that they bolt and unbolt just like the stock cans. Mufflers are universal magnaflow non-polished part # 11365 2 1/4" pipe. They were the smallest I could find to give the exhaust guys enough room to play around with. At first I tried 2 1/2" pipe cans, but they didn't work. Tips are C5 corvette tips that the shop provided. The issue is, if you wish to use the flange and not cut into the stock pipe, the lack of room when the dual tips are added. The corvette tips were short enough to work and I think they look great on the MC. Impressions-Very happy, slight drone around cruising speeds but barely enough to even mention, a non-issue really. Overall the noise is very stock like, a bit deeper in tone, just turned up about 30%. I would characterize this setup as mild to moderate, the wife even approves. If you can, check out the clips through real speakers. |

thanks for posting a video and review. the magnaflows sound like they've got a great, bassy tone, but like aforementioned, the higher rpms sound really raspy. how much was the entire setup including installation?

As far as the rasp yes, when the car is parked and revving in neutral, you do hear that metallic rasp, but only around 7 or 8K rpm. I have yet to hear it while driving, no matter the rpm, and I have red-lined it. Under load it just sounds deep and mellow, no rasp.
To me there are basically two kinds of exhaust sound, a rumble (that chambered flowmaster sound) and a booming sound. Now these magnaflows are pretty straight through, so the sound is more boom than rumble, but nothing like a civic, it is deep and mellow most of the time. I paid $390 total for this setup ($140 for the mufflers and $250 to the shop, which included all labor and the tips). Also forgot to mention, no loss of power at all (I had feared a straight through design would equate to less back pressure and less torque down low, but no). Very happy with how it turned out. |
