question concerning motor mounts (not the bolts)
Hello, all. Sorry to bother, but i did attempt to do a search and came up a tad empty =/
I am going to get my engine mount bolts replaced hopefully towards the end of April, and i see in a few signatures that many people have also 'upgraded' their motor mounts as well, to UUC, or something comparable, and so i wanted to know if anyone thought this would be a useful thing to change out as well when i get my engine mount bolts replaced. thanks so much for your time. Toppers. Seems as though there might be a lack of information on this. I think I might get this done over the summer and ill report back to contribute to the community

Yeah I've wondered about this. I've also wondered if upgrading the mounts is a bad idea, meaning if they are meant to break if they'd otherwise transfer too much power into the transmission, saving you from worse damage.

Many have done tranny mounts which yields improved shifting. I'm not aware of anyone changing motor mounts, although R.Rng sells them if that's what you're looking for.

There will be a significant increase in vibration transmitted from the engine if you install a less flexible mount. I don't think there is anything wrong with the stock mounts for street use. You will want to have the engine mount bolts replaced since there is a known issue with them breaking.

thanks for the info folks. i was thinking that since i am going to pay a shop to change the bolts, i might as well change the mounts as well seeing as how they will be working in the same general area of the car.

Mike, I'm pretty sure you won't want to touch the engine mounts/bushings. There will be A LOT more NVH to be had compared to stock. Swapping out the bolts with the motorsport-grade ones and the Nordlock washers I got for you will be enough
Because after all, it's not really the mount that breaks but rather the bolts that back out and/or snap. |
