Who's going to VIR in February?
I see 4 Z4MCs signed up for the Tarheel BMW CCA HPDE at the end of February. I know the car from Maryland, and I'm the Glen Allen, VA car. Looks like we're being joined by cars from Pennsylvania and NYC. Either of you on this forum?
Anyone else thinking about joining us? I believe that the school's open to non-CCA members now, and there are a few slots still available in each run group. This is on VIR's full-course. Can't wait! Last edited by MFGJR; 01-27-2011 at 06:46 PM.. |

I would love to go, but I have been burned twice with snow at VIR. Too early in the year for me. By me not going you are guaranteed not to have snow...
Have fun - that course is awesome!!! |

Yes, this track is awesome. I've been watching races there since it re-opened, and this will be my 3rd time driving there (or anywhere, actually). Wish it wasn't still a month away. I believe Tarheel will run the fall school on the full course again, so hope to see you there. |

[QUOTE=Last Febuary was my 1st track weekend experience, had so much fun I ended the year with 24 days![/QUOTE]
Wow! Zero to 24 days in 10 months! Where else did you run besides VIR? You're the gray coupe with the black wheels, yes? I'm the other gray coupe that was there last Feb and Oct. See you in a few weeks. |

I'm seriously thinking about attending this if its possible. I just purchased my (new to me) Z4 M Coupe and would love to take it to VIR. I've driven the track before and its a very nice complex. I've just to make sure I can get my car track ready in time before I pull the trigger. If I do sign up though Id like to meet some fellow Z owners.

I might be there if work does not get in the way. Tarheel runs a great weekend.

Last I heard (about a week and a half ago), there were a small number of slots available in each run group, and they were opening it to non-CCA members. Hope it doesn't fill up before you guys figure out if you can go. Would be great if the Z4MCs could outnumber the Z06s! |

MFGJR, that Z06 line is funny, considering the last time I was out at VIR I was in one but thats beside the point, I picked up the M a few days ago and I'm still waiting for the title (purchased from an individual).
Here's what I've got to, nothing major, but none the less... replace 2 front tires, replace 2 front rotors, and replace pads and fluid all around. And last, I've got to buy a new helmet. I see your in richmond so not all that far, maybe we can get together at a cruise or something. |

PM me if you need a good, quick parts source. And, yeah, I'd love to get a MC cruise together. There are about a half-dozen in the Richmond/ Charlottesville area that I know of. We'll have to work on that post-VIR. |

Count me in.....
Jasone432, where are you located? Since it's somewhere in 757, it's close to me. There use to be two MC's in the area, but the other guy left for sold the car months ago so I thought I was the only one left.... |

Shipkiller... I'm in Suffolk, I purchased my car from a guy in Virginia Beach last week. Its possible he was on the forum but I'm not sure. If you ever want to meet up and drive or talk M in general let me know. I've got alot to learn about it. So far its looking like I'll be able to attend this track event. I do have a question though.
I'm not a BMW CCA member as of right now, can I still attend? The website words it as if to say if your not a member of the tarheel group it will only be open to other CCA members... |

Reading the prerequisites on Motorsportreg.com, The EARLY registration opened for members on 5 Jan. Non-members registration opens later. Of course, you can register for a BMW CCA membership on CCA website and get your CCA membership number right away. Do you have a helmet? Since you just bought the car, make SURE you get a good Tech Inspection two weeks or less before you go. Leave your ego at home............. I'll know this week if I can go. If I can make it, we can caravan out. |

Yeah buying a helmet is still on the list of things to do and its looking like joining BMW CCA is on that list as well. Along with a tech inspection, and don't worry about the ego, I've been out there before and I'm not one to think I'm anything better than a student trying to learn all he can

Jason432,
I think this one was $385 for CCA members and $430 for outsiders. BMW CCA membership is $48 per year, so it's cheaper to join the CCA. And, you get Roundel magazine, a discounts on parts/service/accessories at the dealer (I think that's true for the Beach--it is up in Richmond), and then there's all us fun guys to hang around with. You'll get assigned to the club's Tidewater chapter, and if you'd like, call the club's national office at 800-878-9292 and have them also make you an affiliate of the Tarheel chapter for a nominal amount (maybe $10?). While you can join the club online at www.bmwcca.org, you can't add the second chapter membership there--have to call. Being a Tarheel chapter member will get you first crack at future schools, before other chapters' members and then outsiders. Disclaimer--yes, I'm the membership coordinator for the Blue Ridge chapter! Happy that you'll make it to VIR. I'm the Silver-Gray coupe, OE wheels, and should be near the garages in the paddock along with a blue 335 sedan, and a pair of E46 M3s...one blue, the other black. How much track time do you have at VIR and elsewhere? That'll drive which run group you'll be in. Frank |

I was going to update the post with that info but you got to it first.. If my schedule works out this week, MC's will be well represented. I have never been on the track with another Z4MC. Good play time. Jason432, is your car blue in color? |

Frank,
Thanks for the info about BMW CCA. You've pretty much sold me on it. I've only been on a track once, and that was to VIR, in 2008. Pretty much same style as this seem to be, a 2 day thing with three 30 minute sessions per day. I would definitely say I'm still a beginner. Shipkiller... my car is blue, its an 07' IB M Coupe. You by any chance know the car or the previous owner?? |

I'd just chime in to say I'm a Richmonder Z4M owner as well and really like the CCA. The wife and I joined shortly after getting the Z4M last April. All the events have been great and from how Frank raves about the driving events I believe they are great. Not going to make it to VIR this month . I get really excited about driving there but then I'm starting to think there is something in the back of my mind, a subconsious thing, that makes me nervous about it when it comes to registering etc. Probably has to do with the fact that my friend's Z4M Grand Am car got wrecked there, and we were there on crew to see it, and the wreck was really bad and it was tragic to lose the car on the last race of the season which was a home race, and I'd be driving the same kind of ride around there....you get the picture...evil thoughts - I must overcome!!
Have fun all! Hope the weather holds out. Do they allow spectators at these events? Maybe if I come watch it it will help with my weirdness about actually driving there. I've not admitted the weirdness issue before now, BTW....

I never acually met the guy, but he was on the boards a lot for a while. I think you and I have the only MC's in Tidewater. I don't think he drove the car much either. Not sure. I have my hotel room reserved. |

Ship--you have a number of track days under your belt, right? I think at least one of the other Z4Ms will be in B group, so you might have a playmate. |
