i had three neighbors comment on the sound coming from the car saturday...THREE! it was 75 degrees out yesterday... i drove my jeep instead... it has made the car totally embarrasing and unenjoyable to drive.

Through some odd paradox, my M sounds and runs fine, but my Jeep doesn't. I think it's missing an exhaust hanger so the line hits rattles on a crossbar underneath.

What are your next steps now? Find an Indie shop or another dealer?

I think thats a Jeep thing, I just had to do the same fix yesterday for my Jeep. It was making a lot of noise lately and I had no clue what it was until i saw it being driven and how loose the pipe was moving around

Jeeps or coupes?
Did you just add an exhaust hanger? I had a new muffler put in a few months back and this issue just seemed to gradually keep up. The pipes were not redone, just the muffler. Since the new tail pipe is a little larger diameter than the previous one, I know the rear hanger isn't as "under" the tailpipe as it was with the previous muffler. However, I think the knocking is coming from just ahead of the input to the cat where there is a crossbar as part of the vehicle frame. I don't see why its just doing this now, though. I was tempted to cheap out and just get some high temp RTV to use as a damper/gap pad between the two until I get a chance to get under there and really look at it.

I think that it is in the engine... It sounds terrible and I understand why you don't want to drive it.. Did you ever find out what the problem was?

Can we please stop replying to this thread and make it disappear. The dude had a bad experience with his car, he got rid of it, and isn't around any more. This is like the ex wife constantly calling or something. Let's drop it.
