What Tint %
Trying to decide what % tint to go with.
Basically set on F1 Pinnacle tint, since I want something that's going to perform great in the AZ heat, but not mess with cell-phone/radio/ or radar signals. My M has the black interior with black CF leather trim - so combine that with it being a small car, and I think it's going to look darker then the same tint would on something like a 3 series. Is 35% going to be too light where it doesn't look tinted on a sunny day? Also, will it offer enough heat rejection for the Phoenix summers? If I ended up going with something like a 70% on the windshield, would the 35% all around work? At the same time, will 15% be too dark to see out of at night? Plus I figure if I did the windshield at 70% and the rest at 15%, that's just asking for a ticket.

I'd leave the windshield alone unless you don't drive at night. As for the rest, go with the darkest the state allows. I did 35% on driver/passenger/rear and 20% on side rears. Looks pretty dark from outside. My state only allows 35% max. It's illegal to do the front, besides, night driving would be dangerous.

You folks are lucky your state allows tint. Here in the Home of Corrupt Gov't (IL), tint on any front window is illegal. Looks dumb having tint on the rears and back windows only, IMO.
My X5 came with the rears tinted as part of the rear climate package. I hate the way it looks.

Im thinking of 35%, reason being, thats what my state legally allows.
I need to go ahead and have it done. lol. summer is comming and top is gonna be down the whole time. windows up, with tint, with top down looks retarted so I need to have that done ASAP.

If there was a choice, I think 20 or 25%VLT would be perfect for your Silver Grey. Night driving will get better over time, once you get accustomed to the darker tint.
I went with 35%VLT due to my state laws and my apparent chickenshittiness to go against it. But I'm pretty happy with my 35%VLT. |

My options were 18% or 35%, I went with the 18% and nothing on the windshield. Glad I did.
The cabin is so small and such little light gets in that I think anything below 20%-25% is going to look pretty damn dark, unless you have a lot of light streaming in from the windshield. At 18%, you can barely see inside the cabin, only enough to see your outline. No problems with visibility at night. |

It works just like regular tint.
You can do the top few inches, but I don't like the way it looks - wanna have the full thing done. Matjo's car is probably the best example of what I'm looking to do.

yeah, I'd like to see what 35% looks like all around. I think it may look better than 35% sides and 20% rear.

i did the opposite and went light, 50 on the 2 main windows, 35 on the smaller and hatch. cops in my area are really strict about tints (i got 2 tickets in my previous car when i had 35 all around). it's not bad, it doesn't attract too much attention from cops, sorta looks oem-ish during the daylight but you still block out sun and retain privacy in the evenings.

Since I started this thread a year ago - figure I should chime in.
Ended up getting Formula1 Pinnacle in 35%, no windshield. (Basically looks like what RobMCoupe just posted) The heat rejection is great; but with the windshield being your biggest piece of glass, I would have gotten something on that if I stayed in AZ. That desert sun is brutal. Now that I'm in Michigan, I'll see how it goes this summer. The 35% eliminates the fish-bowl feel and blocks the sun, but doesn't distract from the car. May still do something on the windshield at some point.

Does windshield tint affect radar detection effectiveness?
Having experienced the benefit of tinting on my other car, I'm now strongly considering tinting the Coupe, but not sure what percentage would be best on BSM. |

20% used to be the legal limit here, and its a good compromise. Looks totally black but easy to see out.
New limit is 35% - every tint shop will do 35, 20 and 5% I had 5% on my first car, it just looked like black plastic windows and at night you could only just see head lights and no details around you lol

After having the 35% on for the past year I'm happy with it. Just my opinion, but I think going too dark loses some of the maturity - it looks like a young kids car. My buddy has 35% all around (including windshield) on his E93 M3 and it looks sick.
