Can't log in to the IOS 7.0.3 app

Tried to go on the app today and I was logged out. Tried to log in and it said invalid username or password. Tried again, same result. Went to the desktop version and changed my password and logged out and back in and it worked fine. Tried to log in on the app with the new password and it said invalid username or password again. @apptest, can you help?

apptest, was thinking of making a burner account using my same phone and seeing if it would log me out and then not recognize my password. Would this be helpful to you in diagnosing and fixing the problem?

Android is on its death bed, the app will only get more and more broken, login on android may or may not come back TBH. Just FYI its gone from the play store, so if you delete it there's also no way to re-instal it

If you've read the threads here, it wasn't BP's decision to kill off the Android app! Google is strong-arming small app developers, and removed the BP app from the Play store.

There has been suggestions of making the .apk file available for side-loading on a web page, but I think that the maintenance burden for pushing security updates without Google Play's update services probably makes this a bad idea.....

Why have you chosen to discontinue support for android? Not fun trying to access bimmer post using a mobile browser. With no android support, I'll surely be a less frequent visitor.

I also can't log in to the Android app (version 6.7.0 - I downloaded it apk from the internet and installed it a month ago).

So that's it, we won't be able to use the Android app ever again, you won't fix it? πŸ˜”
Using the forum through mobile browser is very difficult and boring

vreihen16 says it correctly. Ive been going back and fourth on the idea of releasing the APK directly here to allow people to directly install it. the issue is what about updates and security? I update the app now roughly 2x per week, if you download a version and then go on your way and never come back to this subform again to see that there's an update you are stuck with a potentially bad version. The app sotre/play store offers huge benefits with updates. I so far have to solution to that question

For you maybe but at the cost of everyone else on the forum. If you have a bad version and it's breaking the forum for others, how do I fix it / stop you from using it or getting a fix to you without having to do something drastic to break it for everyone else also? anyways its a long discussion and out of my hands. It's not like I want to not release the android version. It was the very first version I released (and I have the newest android version ready to go, which is the sad part of this)

BTW logins may be working again for at least some people

Tell them to get the latest version, isn't that how it works? If someone is installing apk's manually it's up to them to make sure they have the latest one, better than having no apk at all.
And yes login works now.

Even worse, suppose one of the software libraries that you compiled it against has a newly-discovered security bug...and you/BP have no way to track who has it installed to tell them to update it manually?

I can tell you from four decades of working IT in the real world (TM) that any side-loaded app is an insta-fail on a corporate device audit. Ask me how many times I had to yell at myself for not installing an update on my work-issued iPhone, because it showed up at the very top of the remote audit exception reports? As my former CIO used to say, we have to eat our own dog food when it comes to security, procedures, change control, etc.....

First, I am able to once again login using the android app. Thanks for that fix.

Is there no reasonable way to work around whatever Google strong arming they're doing to small app devs? Surprising since Google was commonly the easy one and Apple was known to be the difficult appstore.

There's so many random seemingly small developer apps, all over the playstore. Some with few downloads and zero reviews. But bimmerpost can't work around whatever is holding up Google compliance?

Honestly, I wouldnt call it strong arming. TBH I can see that Google has alot of pressures on it and there's also likely alot of slop and malware being submitted to the Play Store so they have to protect it, so Im actually on their side on this one. It's just that me as a solo dev cannot comply with the ask. And yes it's a 180degree as you say, I remeber the time I was pushing out android updates almost daily without a hitch and iOS side was a whole different ballgame. now it's the complete reverse.

Just so you know, I have been keeping the android app fully up to date, even with a few updates today. Just incase I can find a way to get it going again. Right now im looking at ways to keep the android version of the app internally safe and reliable-- it's a massive lift so I have to think about it from every which way and angle.

Understood. While you figure out what's next, how about distributing the current apk through the Samsung Galaxy app store? That will at least help some of us Android users.

Meanwhile us Android users are using 6.7.0 so any newer APK you make available to us to download would be a step in the right direction. I suppose...
