Sony-Honda joint venture scraps electric vehicle plans
Sony-Honda joint venture scraps electric vehicle plans
The Afeela is dead. Sony Honda Mobility, the joint venture between Sony and Honda, slammed the brakes Wednesday on the planned line of electric vehicles as the latter rethinks its wider EV strategy. Earlier this month, Honda revealed that it was expecting a writedown of more than $15 billion in connection with its EV business. Customers who reserved the first Afeelas — at a price of $89,900 and up — will receive full refunds, Sony Honda Mobility said. The first deliveries were slated to land later this year. |

Most JV's fail, but this one was particularly ill conceived. Sony knows nothing about cars or automotive design. Honda knows little about EVs, and its own EV is a wholesale copy of GM's platform. And who picked "Afeela" as a desirable brand name!? Quote:
Not dissimilar to Nissan situation. Sad for both brands - both used to be on the shopping list of many car enthusiasts! a
