2008 3.0si N52 Engine question
Ok, it seems like the N52 engine has 0 (yes, literally 0) upgrades for it in terms of aftermarket parts. (Superchargers, turbo, headers, etc) There seem to be only non engine related aftermarket parts such as exhaust and stuff. Does anyone else know if the N52 is even capable of being modded? Ive heard people say the N52 engine's structural integrity is not as strong as that of the M54 or S54 engines due to the fact that the majority of it is Aluminum and Magnesium instead of cast iron like the M54 or S54. Is this true? I mean it kinda seems really out of place considering a Inline 6 is capable of much more (up to 400 on race specs) and that the i is only generating 215 and the si is only going to 255.
I mean I went to the ESS website and all sorts of other websites, they only offer SCs and stuff for 2003-2006 Z4s, nothing for 06+. Any insights? |

I have spoken with a few companies, seems that the double vanos system is the problem in terms of adding a supercharger. I dont think the block material would hold back the engine from any serious mods. Rpms kill rotating assemblys, its the crank ,rod and pistons and fastners that are much more important in terms of holding up against higher hp. I have heard the M division hasent even gotten their hands on the N52 block to see what they can do with it. Im sure the mods will come in time, they usually do. I have contacted a few companies someover seas which the aftermarket is a bit better for these cars and a few have said a remap tune can yeild between 15-20 hp alone. Seems the Us and eur versions their is a 10hp difference. Some might be in the tuning.

Here is a few sites Ive saved in my searches: http://www.ca-automotive.co.uk/home.php http://www.g-power.com/275.html?L=1 That Hamann parts list posted shows a computer retune, noted at 17hp. I also contacted CA automotive. They told their retune is about $800 us dollars. Point to cosider is the fact the Eur cars are rated at 10hp more than the US conterparts. Dont know if its in the tuning, maybe the emmisions. So their may be some power to be found going this route |
