Just picked up a new daily, F10 LCU 550i rwd w/ 8ZF auto. One owner history (CCA member) who put on less than 13,000 miles total. It’s as comfortable as a Lexus GS but way sportier. Certainly not as unique as the Z but the v8 twin turbo is a real blast. Total sleeper if you’re not a bimmer head.
Here’s how it looks with its winter shoes… Last edited by 3002 tii; 12-30-2021 at 11:48 PM.. |

Sonata N Line
My daily driver is now a Hyundai Sonata N Line powered by a 2.5T 290HP engine with an 8-speed wet dual clutch transmission.

Very cool indeed! What made you even consider/device on the Sonata? And what other cars were you cross shopping?

Cool sometimes equates with "rare". To that note, these two in my fleet I think are pretty cool.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

My other vehicle is an unlimited (4-dr) Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. I mainly use this on the weekends for hauling stuff, e.g., my mountain bike to the trails, Home Depot runs, etc.
I spent the better part of this past year engineering a home brew supercharger upgrade. I installed an IHI twin screw supercharger from a Mazda Millenia, headers, high flow cats, intercooler, injectors, etc have been tuning it myself with HP tuners. My Z4 M roadster is my daily driver.

My wife's X1 is right in the middle of the these two. It's not memorable.

This is my third daily driver Hyundai Sonata. My 2017 2.0T Limited was T-boned by an inattentive driver who ran a red light so after $10K of repairs I traded for the N Line. Also looked at and test drove the KIA K5 GT but liked the N Line styling better and a slightly lower price point. The N Line is fully equipped with all the driver assist aids and best of all the DCT with paddle shifters. No LSD so managing torque steer is a challenge.

My daily is a MKVI GTI. It's got some bolt-ons and a tune and currently makes 281 whp. It's a very practical car that is also amazingly capable. The modifications really woke it up and made it a car that makes even an ordinary trip to the store just another opportunity to have fun.

S2000
Loved my 02 S2000....great handling/braking and the sound of the aftermarket Comptech exhaust rev limiter cutout of 9,200 RPM....unreal.
I believe the S2000's 2L 240 HP efficacy of 120 HP per L still stands as the highest for NA apps.

Our new second ride....
We made it out between snowstorms yesterday (29 Dec) to test drive and purchase; its a 2021 X3 with all options except wireless phone charging; can't believe the features and tech this car has; it's Glacier Silver Metallic with Cognac Vernasca Leather; 2L TwinPower Turbo with 248 HP and 8 speed Sport AT with Drivers Assistance Pro Pkg, Premium Pkg and Harmon Kardon surround sound.
The Sport seats are awesome and the leather and stitching quality is breath-taking. An homage to Chief Inspector Closeau's Pink Panther movie series and his official police vehicle, we named our new ride....The Silver Hornet.

When I had my Z4M we DD-ed my wife's Mini Cooper JCW. But since then, we got her a Tesla Model 3 Performance. For the money, it's hard to beat as a DD and never having to go to the gas station is a pretty nice plus!
