I too was indifferent about the beige top when I bought the car, and had planned to change it to black. Considered having it professionally re-canvased black, professionally dyed, or dyeing it myself using Leatherique or RIT dyes. At the end of the day, the top-down driving experience (majority of its use) was more my priority than top up looks. TBH, the beige has grown on me; it's a nice contrast to the dark exterior/interior and certainly unique compared to most Z4MRs.

Funny I am in NorCal and in the market too! Hope we don't start chasing the same car.

I wouldn't worry about the top at all. My old Z had arguably the ugliest top (gray on IR) and I stopped noticing it after a few months. This car has a lot going so if you like everything other than the top, you should go for it.
