'07 Z4 M Coupe - burns NO oil at 117k miles
Hey guys, just wondering how common this is and what good things it might mean for my engine? I've had the car for about 18,000 miles (bought it with about 99k) and it's never burned any oil between changes. I mean as far as I can see, not one drop. I do changes at about 7,500 miles. Have been using Liqui Moly 10w-60
First, this is super awesome and hopefully suggests it was well maintained before I bought it. What else does this mean? Like, mechanically. I was thinking when I check the valve clearances (I do all work myself) I'd be stupid not to do a compression and leak-down test (but I'd have to buy the gauges) but doesn't this mean those numbers will most likely be in spec? TIA Still in love with this car man! I had a weird moment where I almost sold it for a 97 840Ci but came to my senses. I just love the look of the 840 but kept my Z4 for many reasons... actually, I realized how stupid I'd be after having driven the 840 then on the way home in my Z4 I turned off traction control and hooned it. Yowsa! I fell back in love right there. Last edited by DaveJB; 02-05-2019 at 05:35 PM.. |

Thx. Yeah, it's crazy how reliable it's been. The syncros are in great shape (shifts nicely) the battery is over 3 years old (they last longer in the trunk I guess?) just everything about it is so reliable. What a car!
Lemme throw an updated photo in here too. Last edited by DaveJB; 02-06-2019 at 09:58 AM.. |

P.S. I absolutely love the way the 8ers look, and maybe one day I'll add it to the collection. But no way in hell the Z4M is going for that haha

Dave, just curious - where in AZ are you? So few Z4MCs here. I'm down near Bisbee for the last year, after spending 14 years in Chandler.
I'm on Z4MC #2. Right after I bought it in November, I replaced the battery - it was still the original, a decade old, and was still working. I wasn't going to press my luck so I replaced it right away. I've had great luck with my BMWs in Phoenix with batteries - being trunk-mounted definitely helps in the searing Sonoran desert heat. In my VWs, not nearly as much longevity.

Oil consumption

Such great news - haven't seen a post (yet) identifying excessive (or any) oil consumption between scheduled oil changes. I'm at 66,500 miles and have zero oil consumption between scheduled oil changes as well.

How's the UOA? I'm on my first fill of LM 10W-60, but since my drain intervals are nearly 2 years, I haven't had a chance to run the analysis yet.
In the spirit of this thread, 52,XXX miles, 13 years. Never burns a single drop. I always check the oil level before events and before change, and it's almost always exactly where I left it from the prior fill. Knock on wood.

So, guys, I've been working on cars for decades but I don't know enough to infer anything here. Does this mean our cars likely have like-new compression? AKA, haven't lost any power from new, at least from rotating internals (vs sensors degrading)?
