common replacement part?
http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-Z4-3.0i...ior/ES2538674/
This part is listed a lot on BMW parts sites. It must be a common part needed. Mine is cracking and breaking apart. I think I'm getting ready to order. My question is removing the wiper blade a normal procedure? Does it just press on the spline or is there anything I need to know? It looks like a simple replacement but I didn't want to break anything trying to remove the blade holder. Thanks |

Yes that part gets brittle and looks ugly.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=61_1601 This shows the plastic cover and nut you will need to remove in order to remove the wiper arm. There are plastic pins that will need to be removed to R&R the cowl cover. The new cover should come with new pins.

I replaced mine about 4 years ago.
The replacement lasted about 3 years. It looks like hell now. A couple of things about getting the wipers off: 1) Put painters tape on the windshield under the wipers and mark their position before removing. They're not keyed and have a fine spline, so you can easily lose track of where they were. 2) They're on there pretty tight. I had to use a gear puller, which was difficult because there's not a lot of space under them for the jaws of the puller. I bought this for next time. You'll probably want to do the weather strip around the rest of the windshield while you're at it.

It is normal to use a puller for the wiperarms (its in fact in the TIS manual)
You can get special wiperarmpullers for little on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Windscreen-W...-/231979661274 But the battery style version will work just as well (as will any small puller that can graps behind the arm) I have a wiperarm puller but I think I usually grab a small 2 legged puller. Whichever is nearest.
