BMWNA CEO: U.S. Enthusiasts Have Big Influence on BMW
In a recent interview for BMW's 100th Anniversary by Automotive News, Ludwig Willisch, BMW of North America's CEO, implies that American enthusiasts have had "big influence on [BMW's] decision-making process".
Willisch expresses his recognition of US enthusiasm for the BMW brand and how it is highly motivating to even a CEO like himself to see such a following for BMW. "If you go to a Bimmerfest, it is motivating for me to see how enthusiastic people are about BMW. It is a common theme for everybody to talk about their car, its features, how they love it and what they experience with it. It is about driving a BMW." When asked what traits these enthusiasts enjoy, Willisch says "the steering, the road-holding, the sound, the way you can feel even in your driveway that you are driving a BMW. It is the touch of the steering wheel, the way you release the clutch and the way the car steers." There are some key quotes that i'm sure BMW fans will remember and reference in the future. Willisch certainly knows what fans enjoy about BMW and its hallmark traits (even though he fell short of identifying rear-wheel drive ), but even more, i hope what he says here is reflected in BMW's future direction and philosophy. They actually invested time, thought, and resources into the F80/82 to reduce weight unlike the other 99 models.

Ludwig is here because he represents the brand. His remarks support that he knows and respects the market place that BMW occupies. He has no allusions about what the brand is and how well it sells here in USA. His comments about being a car enthusiast is at the heart of the business and he understands what the US market demands.
