H &R springs
i am planning to order H&R springs. Does anyone who have them vouche that they actually improve handling? i want better handling but coilovers would be too aggressive and wayyyyy too low. it says that they only lower an inch so that is resonable.

No idea on the H&Rs personally; but, I've heard they are pretty rough when it comes to ride, even more unbearable then the OEM suspension which we all know is stiff as it is. My GF just got me a set of Tein S.Tech for my car, they are 0.6"/0.7" drop which is not as substantial as most lowering springs so I'm assuming it wont affect it too much

I just put back the the OEM springs on my z4m coupe (same model number also for the HR springs for both coupe and roadster). i prefer the ride on the oem. as for the look, its different. if you want the HR springs, send me a pm, I will find a deal with you. they are in perfect shape. they were on the car only 4000 km.

The H&R springs I had were stiffer than stock but not harsh at all. They improved the handling very slightly. The thing I didn't like about the H&R springs was that their claimed 1" drop was more like 0.6"". The front wheel gaps still had a little more than 2 finger widths and visually they just didn't make enough difference.
And what do you mean that coilovers would be way too aggressive and way too low? If you want the best ride comfort, coilovers are the way to go (TCK or KW V3; don't bother with H&R coilovers which are crap). Lowering spring+OEM struts/shocks would never handle as well as a good set of coilovers with adjustible dampenings on a car like the Z4M. And you don't need to set the ride height low either. You can set the ride height the same as stock if you want, or basically play with the height settings until you're happy with them.

I'm also checking out H&R springs as well. Are their 1.5"/1.25" drop accurate?
Also, how are those Tein S springs working out? Did you notice a visual difference or does it still look stock height? |

I think the stock setup can be harsh...the road around here are a pothole haven tho...

Drop is ~ 1 " and I recommend using the OE rear spring pads to even front to back out.
The ride IMO is better than OE, feels more sure footed under cornering load, less "bouncy" over road imperfections. I like em - at first I felt the front suspension was a little too harsh, perhaps just because the springs had not settled.

The OE are more of a progressive rate spring than the H&R. I don't like progressives as they transition, especially under cornering loads.

For the regular Z4, nope the H&R 1.5"/1.25" aren't accurate either. I had them on my '04 3.0i and the ride was absolutely slammed. Zero finger width gap at the rear and about slightly less than 1 finger width gap at the front. The drop was closer to 2" than 1.5". The car bottomed out going over every single bump.

Make sure you get Koni adjustable struts/shocks at the same time. Getting them now will save you more money later on. Stock struts/shocks don't match well with aftermarket lowering springs and will give you a bouncy ride (when you accelerate or brake you will feel like a bobble-head doll). On my '04 3.0i I made the mistake of not getting the Koni struts/shocks at the same time because I wanted to save money. Couldn't stand the ride and few weeks later I ordered the Koni's and had to pay for a 2nd installation/alignment. Eibachs + Koni's will give you good handling performance and good ride comfort.

Good point! However, I'll be doing the install myself and the big gap with my new wheels is driving me crazy! I have the equipment and have lowered quite a few cars before, so I won't mind doing the work again in a few months when I get the shocks. It's the same old story, too many mods to do and not enough money!
