Detailing Wheels
I'm in the process of detailing my car. So far, wash, clay, polish and first layer of menzerna sealant is done. I plan on putting another layer of sealant tomorrow night then wax the following night.
Is it ok to use the sealant and wax on my 108 wheels? Will that help brake dust from collecting on them? Thanks.

Thanks for the help! I'll definitely try the sealant and wax on the wheels!
What's the longest amount of time you can leave sealant on before buffing it off? With my work schedule, I was thinking of maybe putting on sealant in the AM before work and then buffing it off when I get back.

I just washed, clayed, waxed, and sealed my car yesterday. As far as the wait time before buffing off the sealant I use Wolfgang and the directions on AutoGeek said to leave it on for 35-40 minutes before buffing. Maybe check AutoGeek for some of their tutorials.

Wheel Wax is what you want, they sell it at BMW dealerships, and I think at most of the chain auto stores now.
It has a different formulation from normal wax to resist the high temperatures in that area. I've been using it for a few years now, and I can tell you that the difference in how easily brake dust cleans off of wheels waxed with wheel wax (vs not) is like night and day. A quick shot with the hose and their clean. It usually sells for ~$12, and it takes a long time to use it up. |

When I do a full detail on my car I take the wheels off the car. What a difference there is when you wash and wax the inside of the wheel as well. Here again, I don't do it every time...usually once or twice a year. Also, to cut down on the amount of brake dust switch to a different pad, i.e. Akebono Ultra Premium.

I've been using the BMW wheel cleaner, which as far as I can tell, is identical to Sonax. The stuff sprays on green and turns pruple - red as it reacts with the brake dust. I've been washing my car weekly, sometimes for no other reason than to keep brake dust off the 108 rims. I usually try to wash the inside of the rim as best I can and the back of the spokes. Its hard to do on the front wheels owing to the bigger brake rotor, even with a good wheel brush. But the BMW Wheel Wax certainly sounds intriguing. I'll pick up some and give it a try.

+1 on Wheel Wax. I've been using it for a number of years and just had to buy my second tub. There are many opinions on what product works best to seal/protect wheels. I returned to Wheel Wax (after using Collinite 845) because I also felt it also cleaned some deposits while I was using it.
I switched to using a microfiber glove recently and that has made applying it somewhat easier. |

Try some Opti-Coat 2.0 on the wheels if you want something that lasts a really long time and repels most everything.

Wheel maintanence
I am also a Griots guy. I use the HD wheel cleaner about once a month, and the regular wheel cleaner every wash. I also got some of the long handled wheel brushes that I use to clean the interior portion of the wheel when I wash. And about every six months, I use wheel wax. I leave it on until it dries to a hazy finish and then remove with an old t shirt, or micro fiber cloth. The look goes a long way!

Thanks for the advice, gents. I'll definitely get some wheel wax.
So my car has been sitting in the garage the last few days. Should I use quick detailer and microfiber to wipe down the car before applying the next coat of menzerna power lock sealant?
