17's on an M?
Hi guys.
Ive been doing 2-3 events a year for the last 4 years. I started out with stock tires/sizes, then went to the Dunlop Direzza Star spec z1's (245/265). The Dunlops are nearing the end of their life, and I am now wondering if I should buy another set in the same size, or if I should buy some light weight 17's for the track. Has anyone done this? What are the advantages and disadvantages? (other than weight savings, and less cost per tire) I do run track pads (Hawk HT10's) and I have KW V3 suspension. And I generally run in B group. Thanks! |

Not many 17's have the offsets without spacers to clear our brakes. Stick with 18's on a set of lighter track wheels...

Like he said with 17" offset's are your biggest problem. However for any custom wheel shop it shouldn't be difficult for them to deal with it.
Pro: Aside from weight, cheaper & more choice of tyres. Pro: You can reduce wheel circumference which will increase your acceleration but reduce your top speed in each gear. Con: Will your front brakes fit? Con: If you stagger 18" on front & 17" on rear you'll create a nose up stance, which will need a coilover height adjustment & maybe even an alignment. |

17" SSR competition Type C wheels fit. I have had them on my Z4M.
It's not reallythe offset that needs to clear. It's more the clearance inside the barrel and the spoke design. Some of the cheaper made wheels have a lot more metal on the inside and will not clear the brakes.
