Fronts are still good but the rears are ~2/10s above bars and have lost a lot of grip. I'm definitely changing rubber this spring and from what I have found out so far, the ZII are the likely choice.

I put V12's on last year and hate them, poor on the street and rubbish on the track. Would never buy again or recommend them. This I'm going to give Falken's a try for this year.

^FWIW, I know 2 people that had chunking issues with Faulkin 454s.
IDK what their new tires are like though.

Thanks again, everyone! It seems that Pilot Super Sports win the day for my needs, although I was almost swayed back to the Conti DW's when I saw that they're on sale at TireRack... then I realized the 245/40's are on backorder (and have been since Feb. of 2012...?!?!?).
One more question on tire size, the wheels (18x8.5 and 18x10) currently have 235/40 and 265/35 tires (Hankook V12) but they almost look a bit stretched on the rear rims to me? I'm planning to buy 245/40 and 275/35 but is there any reason to consider the narrower setup? Last edited by philjw; 03-20-2013 at 04:00 PM.. |

Star specs I think better of the choices for dry moderate track duty, but PSS and PS2 much better for wet days. Note that my Star Specs wore thru the toes very quickly with dinan 0.5deg camber plates on e90. PSS and PS2's love camber and wear like iron--so imo the better choice at the sacrifice of some dry grip..

Maybe the Sumitomo HTR III.
Had them on my Z3M and thought they were much better than the V12's I had on the same car. Little stiffer of a ride, but better grip. Going to give them a try on the Z4M next month. |

^ I've read and heard very good things about the HTR III for the price...
As for V12s, I had them on my 330ci and the first thing I noticed was the soft sidewall and shitty steering response. I never got to drive the car hard before I sold it though. I now have PSS on the coupe and will never look back. |

Since I bought last weekend a nice set of 19" style 313 wheels new in boxes, I'm into buying new tires as well.
I loved the Michelin PS2 on my DD Z4 I had a few years ago but I was also happy with the Hankook Tires I had in the dry. Rain wasn't that good compare to the PS2. Since I'm shopping around for 225 and 255 or 235 and 265. There is a significant price difference. Tirerack also offers a $80 mail in rebate for the Hankook. 235 and 265 Hankook run after rebate for $682 225 and 255 Michelin PSS run after rebate + split ship for $1020 I'm tentative to get the wider tires and have $350 in my pocket since my Z4 is my DD. |

though i have never used the V12s i can say that as an owner of PSSs i wouldn't recommend anything else. Yes they are expensive, but they have a pretty good tread life so that helps offset some of the costs.
As far as performance goes, they are terrific tires. They are very very linear and provide great feedback. You can feel the tires breaking loose and hold just about any amount angle with the rear. Sure the max performance wont touch some of the more aggressive tires, but the overall experience that these tires provide is very good all around and all weather. |

pss win over v12's any day. i had both and can say that they are 2 times more tire. i have a set of the sumitommo htrz111 on my e90 and they are a good "in between" tire compared to the pss and hankook

May not apply to the OP, but I've been happy with my v12's. Had a set of Dunlop Star Specs before that gave good grip, but tramlined almost as bad as the original RFTs. I ran all 4 down almost to cord in 20K miles. The v12's might have been a bit less grippy, but seemed to work well wet and dry over 40K miles of daily driving - and almost completely eliminated the tramlining. Maybe this is a result of the soft sidewall others have complained about, but I liked the Hankooks enough that I just ordered a 2nd set.

I'm noticing lately with teh V12's that once you get near the wear bars in the rear (haven't measured so I don't know exactly how close) the wet tration goes out the window. How do I know? It's been raining for almost 2 weeks straight here and it takes no effort to get sideways around roudabouts. lol
Will not be buying these again.

Just bought a set of the hankooks... please note that the tires seem to run wider than the same size conti extreme contact dw tires. Had a slight rubbing problem.
