I love retread....
not really, ran over an entire retread today that just popped off a truck in front of me. front bumper all messed up, lost ALL the underbody shielding, tore off the front plate, both headlights vibrate and flicker, and who know what else. Car are airborne as I went over it.
love it! poor car....front grill is now taped to the car so it doesn't drag. |

That is bad to hear. Hopefully the truck lines insurance will also compensate you for diminished value. Just in a blink of an eye you and your car can be slammed. It's a shame and the retread stuff should be outlawed. Super dangerous.

Sorry to hear you hit a road Alligator.
I was a trucker and owner operator for 10 years. That's road hazzard just like catching a rock in the windshield. I've had brand new virgin tires throw the tread just like recaps too. If as a driver you check your tires before taking off, it's something we simply can't control. Trucking company isn't responsible and 99.999% of them won't pay a penny. Best advise I can give you is to take this up with your own insurance company. Just had the newest tire on my Dodge dually explode a couple months ago 5 minutes after checking my tires. Not a recap, not over or under inflated, good tread and truck was empty. It did $2500 in damage tearing up the front fender, door, headlight, air dam, hubcap, bumper cover and everything plastic inside the fender. And they were General Ameristeel tires, not some off brand China Bombs Last edited by pmmjarrett; 07-24-2012 at 03:33 PM.. |

Truck didnt stop, luckily i have zero deductible and dropping my insurance with nationwide next month so no premium increase,
Like 2000 in damage and that unless they find more issues under the car. |

I once caught a full retread in mid-air in my E39. Raked up the hood, scratched and cracked the windshield, and took off the driver's side mirror. My insurance company wouldn't go after the trucking company. Said it was a road hazard. They covered the loss. Got a freshly painted hood and new windshield out of the deal.

Me too! And then I moused over and read that he ran over one! I had to read it 3 times before I realized he was talking about a tire.

lol, was out driving last night and had to take evasive manuveur to avoid a road alligator. Popped up out of no where on the highway at 70ish mph. Luckily my track training kicked in and I was able to avoid smoothly, not swerve.
