compartment door button broke
Hi,
The release button on my compartment door broke today I looked on real oem and the part is 51467055464. Not sure why it's the whole trim for the release button, but does anyone have pointers or video on how to remove item 14? I'm out of warranty and replacing it myself. I'm surprised it broke...just ABS plastic... sigh. Anyone else have this issue? I added a picture and added red arrow to show the location of the broken button. |

mine broke this morning also
Are you saying you can't just order a new button you have to order the ENTIRE console trim? Did you just end up prying the door open? |

Hi bigbacon,
I don't have that answer yet...but based on real oem, it shows that the whole trim, number 14 has to be ordered. I plan to buy it some time this week and fix it when the part arrives. I wanted to ask the forum for pointers so the replacement would go smoothly. If anyone knows you can replace just the button...please chime in... but knowing BMW, it's the whole trim. |

My problem is the door, the light always stays on no matter how many times I've played with the darn pin!

All that plastic is shameful fisher price type plastic, it's garbage, and expensive too.

The Z4 is a beautiful cludge car... the cheap plastic is what makes the car creek and crack.. it's annoying, but I guess it balances the awesome stock handling and performance of the Z4s. I just wish they didn't use cheap ABS plastic though...really cheap brittle plastic for a close to or $60K car. If it was a $30K like BRZ...I understand...not BMW for twice the price... but why cry of spilled milk... Just glad to get a few pointers to fixing the issue.

bigbacon, I'm assuming you meant the compartment door.... I had issues a few times and then finally got stuck... I pressed again and then the button broke off... I put the button back in and haven't touched it...waiting to get my tires installed and then take care of this problem.
David70... the cost is about $55 or so if memory serves right...that's the tischer bmw price. Dubbeddown... I also had that same problem...but I played with the pin and haven't had a problem since... I do worry about it draining the battery. I also make sure to lock my car when I leave...if you leave it unlock... it tends to drain the battery... it's the Z4 cludge factor... I believe they were more focused on the performance and handling than the little stuff. |

It finally opened for me, but the button is broken so I am just leaving the door open for now.
do those two underside screws by the button help remove the whole panel or just the button itself? |
