well just for the numbers alone the Z4M coupe will be where its at as the M roadster will be less but the M will make it hold its own.
the 100+ thousand others will not fair as well. it was a love it or hate it design which is in its favore as it kind of started the movement in BMW new design movment. heck look at the edsel it was hated now worth tons, pontiac aztec....still hated by most and aint worth a scant, the Z to me is more sculpture and art in a roadster form so i hope it will be collectable one day. but who knows, origanal MINI's are collectable and still fetch a premium and they made TONS! but MINI's had a history thats tuff to match. |

Both. Currently, judging by the forum, it seems like a cult. However, it does seem like a lot of people on this forum are not going to part with their Z4s. Myself included. Doesn't matter if its a Coupe or Roadster, the damn things are just beautiful whatever way you look at them. I think there will be many in the future wishing and wanting to have one. On the road, I am still amazed at the number of looks my 6 year old car gets. Which is why I think they WILL become collectible.

I agree that the love-or-hate, and fairly unique, design are in its favor. But I'm arguably also a part of the "cult", so probably biased as hell. |

IMHO, NA vs worldwide is a big difference considering emission standards I would think. The NA numbers are way lower for the coupe worldwide I believe.

It would be nice to see more new members here, but other than that, it doesn't bother me one way or the other. I plan to keep my car for the long haul!

1815 coupes and I think 3000 roadsters stayed in North America.
I would say the z4 coupe in M badging or not will become a cult/collector's car. The roadster not so much, there are just way too many out there.

It's funny, I've seen more M coupes since I started paying attention a couple years ago than I have M roadsters. Non-M Z4s are pretty common though, they'll hold some value because they are great cars, but I don't reckon they will ever be "collectible" hell I'm not sure the Z4M's will even match the Z3M's in terms of holding value

Mines a second car and I didn't buy it to collect it, I bought it to drive. That said I do feel culty about it - like I've joined some sort of tribe. I can't see myself selling it for some time.

Coming from the E30 M3 collector/cult car world. I can see the Z4 M Coupe being in that same catagory. Very low production numbers over 3 years even less than the M3, but far less racing heritage. I sold a prestine 88 M3 with a new 2.5 evo engine and great paint for $25k. in 2029 lets see how the M Coupe's value holds up! hahaha

I'm hoping both will be collectible, and wondering if the Z4M will follow the same trend as the Z3M, where the coupe version will hit cult status like some have mentioned above. I'd like to think I am going to keep this car for as long as possible, but as an enthusiast there are so many awesome cars out there that I'd like to try out, who knows what the future holds

At first I was one of those that was definitely not enamored of the z4's looks. I thought the side profile was great, but the rear and front, eh while it didn't repulse me, it didn't make me drool either. I never expected to buy one, until this M came my way.
Now I smile as i walk to it, look over my shoulder as I walk away from it, and smile like a crazy man when I drive. I also keep coming here for more of whats going on with the community. I think it is a cult thing, perhaps the M's will be collectibles as the worldwide production vs any other BMW's was so low. but the regular z's while amazing cars in their own right have simply too many out there to make it to collectible status, cult, oh hell yeah, ask any owner... i don't think I will be getting rid of this car anytime soon

Of course they'll be collectible, they're an interesting sports car. Sure production helps determine price but it isn't a make or break to determine whether something becomes 'collectible'. How many '64-69 Mustangs were built? Over a million? Still collectible.
