That doesn't look too bad, as some BBK installations simply ask for spacers to be added for better fit. That definitely look stronger than adding spacers.
My next question is, how does the caliper clear 2 additional inches of rotor? Did you take measurements to specifically set the outer edge of the pad parallel to the rotor surface?

thanks guys!
my tuner is acually a guy who builds stair cases lol i made the measurments had a tool shop cut the parts to the exzact MM specified and then took it to a guy i know who welds custom staircases as i wanted a good solid weld. anywho, if the darn brake pads show up ill be able to install....... if not sometime next week they will be on. again on paper it works but as ive noticed in the design world sometimes theirs always a curve ball. i wont know if this works completley untill its on and all that jazz. lets cross are fingers lol.... |

UPDATE: so had the ZED power bled, with ATE racing blue brake fluid that i had sitting in the garage from the MINI, and then took it for a test drive.
Let me just say that the Z4 brakes even in "I" form where fantastic now their out of this world, she stopes on a dime and is super responsive, pedal feel is greatly improved and feels better than before. im thinking with the lighter N52 engine than the S64 or M54 the Z4M rotors coupled with the 135I calipers make the braking that much better... it feels it stops better than my MINI cooper S with the brembo GT kit on it..... stopping fast from 60 mph is straigt and true and no ill affects felt. No ABS triggered or loss of traction from rotors locking up felt either. i had to reajust slow stoping however as the new brakes grab a lot better than before so less pedal pressure is needed. all in all as far as daily driving is concerned its a win win! if i ever see a track ill post more but so far im sold. looks great, stopes great = happy man! |

One thing I noticed when I had both an e90 and e60 as loaners was that the brakes were much more sensitive than the 3.0si's. The brakes on the Z felt more linear but it lacked the initial bite from the other cars I drove so your experience with e82 brakes isn't surprising... congrats!
edit Maybe I missed this but are you using oem pads or aftermarket? |

Oh crud! thanks Roffle for the time and looking I really appreciate it! however if anybody else has a or plans on replacing their rears please let me know, or even if you have a rear BBK and wouldn’t mind me borrowing your rear rotor that would be great! I would send it back when I’m done. also thanks Dubb!!, per your question low dust pads for this model are few and far between so I could have went with the Hawk pads but they where 130$ and special order only and I wanted to get this setup on so I went with EBC Red stuff pads, they have a bedding material on them already and where available next day so I went with those, besides I’m not tracking the car and its more of a daily so I figured the EBC's would be more than adequate. |

z4 in the stable
just got a z4 3.0. did a brake job and they just don't perform like the 135. so thanks to all of you for doing all the research.
op. great work. if you could answer some ? why weld spacers to the brackets? did you have to add space for the larger diameter rotors relative to the 135 rotors? do you have pictures of the brackets? why not go with 325mm M rotors if you are not going to track like me. and maybe an easier fit? good job |

has any one considered 996 calipers and price differential to 135 calipers? you know easier brake pad swaps with the 996 over 135
for the rears. maybe the 996 calipers are an easier retrofit just a thought |

The spacers were added so it would clear the z4m rotor. If I didn't add the spacer the rotor and caliper would clash. The reason for the z4M rotor is it has the correct offsets for the front of the suspension for our cars as it was used on the E46 CSL cars as well. You could possibly use the smaller rotor but I haven't tested it.
The rears will also bolt up without spacers but I need to play with rotors and brake lines. In the end I will use a custom two price rotor front to back. The car so far has far exceeded my expectations for braking performance with just this upgrade and only invested 680 dollars. So bang for buck on this mod is super huge !!!!!! |

well their Brembo 6 piston calipers so lots of clamping force, and the surface area of the pad is also larger. but i cant say their better than the Z4M's for sure as i have an 3.0I and havent taken apart a Z4M's caliper.. perhaps someone else could give you a better answer. the caliper carrier works with any E46 style suspention and the Z4M has the E36M front suspention so not sure if that would work, but if you have block of aluminum and a metal shop near by i bet you you could fab something up pretty easily. |

for cost of fab, i think you're better off getting used stoptechs, plenty of used bbk's always for sale on bimmerforums from the track rats.

Hey yea I was looking at the rears but they won't work as the offset is very different, my 3.0i has a much larger hat and it won't cover the e-brake.
However the 1 series sport rotors will work and the rear 135i sport rear caliper bolts right on so its turning out to be grate and the rotors look good, at a later date I'm gonna go with two piece rotor front and rear for OE direct swap rotors, that way they both match and will look the part but right now the fronts are still working great, just need to find the time to finish. |

OP - I'm not following 100% of what's going on here - do the factory 135i front calipers bolt right up to non-M e85 caliper brackets? What's needed to get the z4M rotor on with it? Maybe the threads missing a picture or this one was born of another that I haven't read...
to be super clear/dumb it down If i wanted to do this on my 05 3.0i I would need to acquire the following parts: ????? |
