Saw your car at Bimmerfest East, badass build!
Which rear diffuser setup did you have? Loved it. Looked like it might have been taken from another application and applied to the Z4?

Thank you! I'm running the E89 carbon fiber diffuser, custom fitted to the bumper.

Finally got a chance to dyno the track queen:
22psi. Been driving on this tune for a few months now, including all my HPDE events. I think the transmission is holding pretty well so far (including the rest of the driveline as well). I was planning to start the dyno at 3krpm as I do all my dyno sessions, but I mistakenly would hit the dynojet button 'after' I had already stepped on the gas. On this car, it starts revving out fairly quickly. Do I plan to up the boost and make more power? Nope... I have the other beast for that.

Holy cats that dyno plot
This is a mad build, and I love it. What's next? How do you find the car at the track with that much power? |

It's a great fat power curve, but corner exits are my struggle. I only have 10% throttle, maybe 30%, and then 100%. I have a very narrow window to ease on the power without the turbo wanting to spool, thus, I have to wait until I'm absolutely straight before going over 30% throttle.
The fix? Get traction control working on my AEM. Will be testing this out next month at NJMP. compare to the VF570 Supercharger on these S54s: As long as the chassis/drivetrain can continue to hold this power, I think it will be a testament to the hardware's capability (remember: stock z4m tranny, stock driveshaft, stock rear diff (no LSD), and z4m-swapped rear axles). I haven't seen anyone run this much power on this drivetrain, perhaps I'm the first. I'll keep pushing it until it breaks, but honestly, I could turn the boost down and still enjoy this thing Not going above this level for the foreseeable future.

The AEM will kill a cylinder randomly rather than close throttle, which will reduce torque but keep boost pressure up. Works real similar to the Racelogic system I use on my Supra, but still have to test if the AEM is "as good".
I did upgrade to 506lb front / 672lb rear springs. Keep in mind this is the 3.0si, which already has a weaker rear sway than the z4m. (22.5mm for the M, 19mm for the 3.0si w/Msuspension). Still, I'll consider detaching it. I also don't have the LSD, thus many variables here that are not typical from most M owners. Thanks for the tip!

You're totally right that the open diff will definitely behave differently than the LSD, but at the end of the day (or just past the apex, I suppose), if you have more traction because both tires are able to maintain contact with the track, you'll get more drive out of the corner with any diff. The LSD will help maintain traction at higher throttle openings because it'll distribute the torque better - the open diff will want to spin up the inside tire, as you know - but LSD == open as long as you aren't spinning the tires. |

dre99gsx Let me shake your hand sir bloody well done.
I joined hear to read this and comment on it. The video was posted on a U.K. Z4 forum and I am very impressed. Having done a 1uz swap into a friend’s mk4 supra engine swaps can be a PITA. The old 1jz is sat doing nothing in our workshop........ It really is a great build I must read through it again. To fully understand how your controlling everything. I guess it a standalone ECU? I am sure the answer is in the thread somewhere. Well done great car |
