Welcome back! Have you gotten the supra back in business?
What's the plan for this? Turbo? I heard that's becoming very popular with the m54s now, I don't know about the m52. Or maybe engine swap? Have a spare 2jz lying around? Or an ls or s65! |

2JZ makes perfect sense given your history.
This should be interesting ![]()

Have you found the harness already? I came across this...
http://www.wiringspecialties.com/bmw-e46/ It's e46 but I'm sure if you give em a shout they'd know. Here's my question...the mounts and such...custom? |

Spent quite some time trying to find other E46 swap threads, details, photos, etc. I haven't found a single technical photo, specifically of the motor mounts (and there seems to be quite a few of these swaps on E46s done).
Had some delay, waiting for parts.. ordered some 2J - E46 motor mounts. 15lbs massive steel mounts that didn't even align properly, and cost me a bundle. Returning them and fabbing my own. Will be welding 1/4" thick aluminum, should be stout. ![]()

I know you can fabricate Andre but that notch for the steering shaft is suspect.
Maybe V2 could be HSS and boxed where the notch is made. Can't wait to see the finished article ![]()

Answered a big question:
NO you cannot use E46 motor mounts/trans mounts or anything out there for 2JZ swaps. Yes, the Z4/Z4M uses the same motor, motor mounts and subframe as an E46 ( M3 / 330ci), and the GS6-37BZ is also shared on one of the E46 platforms, thus would think E46 2J swap kits are transferable to Z4, but they are not. Here is what I know: 1. GS6-37BZ mounted using OEM transmission mount pushes the 2JZ block to far forward, which means the oil pan will interfere with the crossmember: ![]() ![]() I was hoping this would fit so I wouldn't have to have a custom driveshaft made, custom trans mount, and custom shifting assembly. ![]() I was able to get the E46 CXRacing 2J sawp engine mounts to line up, but again, the sump would hit the crossmember. I'm returning these mounts. 2. To get the sump to clear the crossmember, I need to shift the entire assembly backward about 3.5": ![]() ![]() Then she clears. One positive side to this is it shifts the assembly weight further back, potentially reducing the front to rear weight distribution issue I'll be adding with the turbo.

Most likely going to chop off 3" from current drive shaft and have it welded/balanced at a local shop. Not ready to spend the big bucks.
As far as power goals, whatever the trans/driveshaft/diff/axles can handle ![]() Almost done with the trans bracket. Used 1/8" aluminum bracing, tack-welded to fit. Will do final welding and cleanup after everything is complete - don't care about how pretty it is right now. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Good news: Everything fits and clears.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Valve covers aren't bolted down, main valve cover is crooked - engine does sit level with chassis ![]() ![]() ![]() Next steps: Get the driveshaft cut, welded and balanced Shorten and install the transmission shifter, check for alignment Begin building the motor

After doing some measurements and making a few calls, turns out cutting my driveshaft won't be an option. I need it shortened by at least 10mm, which is almost nothing. I found a Z3 driveshaft which is identical in every way, but 6" too short. Could not find any other BMW driveshaft that would work based on research.
Called up DSS and got a quote for a custom one-piece drive shaft (roughly $1k). Had a choice: Pay $1k, be done with it, or cut the subframe, move the motor up ~15mm, and use my current drive shaft for $0. I chose to cut the subframe. Mostly because I need to weed out issues and get this driving before spending the big $. Going for low-budget right now. My favorite tools ![]() ![]() Before: ![]() The oil pan current has about 3mm clearance to the crossmember front and above. ![]() ![]() Cut: ![]() ![]() Adjusted motor/trans mounts to move engine 13mm forward, still have clearance under subframe and can now mount stock driveshaft with ease! Waiting for some 304 SS sheet to weld up the subframe holes.
