Is there a Z4 (M) Coupe Bicycle Roof Rack?

My question is exactly the same as the thread title. I am planning to have an M coupe as an only car and would like to be able to transport my bicycle. I doubt it will fit inside and it seems that the roof is the only option. I have tried searching here and a few other forums and have not found anything to be of help. I'm sure this question does not come up often and I hope some of you can help me with this situation.

Unless you condsider those bikes that fold in half and you can stuff that in the trunk...

Otherwise, yeah.. Killjohnnyforan has a point... Z4 is more for driving around rather then driving to a place to bike around.

Thanks for the replies. I just thought I would ask as it was something that just came to mind. I currently drive an s2000, so I have the same problem now. With my next car I would like to avoid the same problem. It seems difficult to find a car that is able to be able to transport my road bike and also be able to spend time on the track. It is an odd combination for sure, but I will explore some other cars in the same price bracket to see what they offer. The folding bike is an interesting idea, but I have put so much time and money into my current ride, that it would be a waste not to enjoy.

no way people...

rock a rack... i think they look good on cars they don't belong on. *Dead serious.* I saw a custom roof rack on a porsche boxter once... it was siick!

most roof racks are very easy to remove too.... so just make it part of the regimen when you are headed to the trail head, etc.

all that said, i have never seen one.... doubt we ever will. Low'ish production numbers of cars coupled with the lack of interest in people that actually own them who would want a roof rack has got to be very low. Doubt it would make for a good investment for a company to manufacture a rack system based on those facts.

Mmmm yes. I would love to pilot an suv on the track.

Thanks all for the additional help(constructive or otherwise). I am a little disappointed since I enjoyed the mixture of power and driving dynamics of the z4 m. I guess not many owners have similar issues or interests involving cycling. I believe Porsche offers a system for bikes and snowboard that I will ask about at the dealer or perhaps wait to see if something becomes available with the upcoming m3.

Welcome to the forum, mdy.

The Porsche Boxster has perhaps the most versatility with regards to cargo accessories. If you were planning on getting an M Roadster, there's always the trunk rack accessory as a possibility.

I don't believe these cars were meant to be practical. Coupled with low demand for "practical" accessories... well there you have it.

Cheers.

Thanks Rick.

I currently drive a Honda s2000 and had my fill of convertibles. I was planning to go to something with a fixed roof and a bit more comfort. I had considered the Cayman S, but the test drive left me wanting more power. Right now I am looking into a CPO 911 c2s which I think would suit my needs.

You gotta remember even people with suv's get bike racks, since no one wants a dirty tire inside their car. I hope you find a solution and remember to at least take the bike rack off when you go to the track.

Of course the rack will come off. It's not especially something I am looking forward to, but rather a dirty compromise that will allow me to have the best of both worlds.

mdy,

I am in the same predicament as you.

I'm just jumping in here to subscribe to see if anyone has anything good to add that I haven't found yet. I still can't understand why some here tweak and get rude when we ask about adding a rack to the car ... simply b/c it is sporty, we are now banned from being functional?

Keep us posted with your search.

You can install them on the E46 M3, I just drop the rear seats in mine to carry my bike around.

There is no inserts in the roof on the M Coupe though for a bike rack, was one of the first things I checked.

There is an "OEM" rack that doesn't go on the roof. It's more of a tail rack, that requires some holes drilled in your rear bumper...not a great option but it's out there.

Check out this thread. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...highlight=rack

Does anybody else notice that this "bike rack" has no way of fastening down your bike... Might as well just tape the bike onto the back window!

Thanks! I'm glad to see there are other cyclists here. This hadn't even crossed my mind. Nice bike by the way. My current ride is a Litespeed Tuscany.

I DID say in the 3rd post you could consider getting a folding bike.... They do make those you know...

Nice to know someone is paying attention.

Exclamation I found this BMW unit on RealOEM

mdy,

I was wandering around realoem.com and stumbled across this roof rack system for the Z4 coupe from BMW and thought of you. I don't know anything about it, but it might be worth asking a dealer/parts guy about. It looks a little more stable compared to the aftermarket one shown here already and has bike or ski/snowboard adaptors for it.

Here's a link to it.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...58&hg=82&fg=51

If the link doesn't work (realoem is a little funny about embedding links, pictures, etc), after you select the M coupe (E86 Z4 M3.2....), I found it in the "82 UNIVERSAL ACCESSORIES" group. There is a sub-group 82 51 for the roof rack systems.

RCNet

PS. It looks to be the same one Dammmittt was referring to, and looks like it does support the M Coupe. Oh, and it does come with covers to fill the mounting holes in the bumper when you aren't using it.
