Aero Turbine Exhaust

Here is a video of my Aero Turbine exhaust. A lot of the clips were taken with the windows open so it is louder than it would be with them shut. The sound quality of this is probably not the best since I used my son's video camera that records straight to micro sd card; but it sure was convenient.

At about 2:31 you can hear my phone notification sound that was in my pocket at the time (to give you an idea of the relative loudness).

A special thanks to my 11 year old for being the camera man!

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for making the video and posting it up! Definitely sounds good! Almost making me second guess my choice when I do finally mod...borla or aero...

Is there any rasp as you get above 4K?

By the way, you link didn't work directly but I just fished in there and cut out the link.

Thanks

I could have sworn I had it working in the preview before I started the thread. I just edited my first post.

Jim, thank you (and your son) for taking the time to post this!

It's nice to have the various stages (cold start, idle, cruising RPM, acceleration, and the drive by) to compare. Sounds great!

I'm really considering this as it has a sound I like, not too loud, and most importantly little drone in the cruising RPM range (2,500 - 3,200). I'm going to talk to my muffler/exhaust shop guys in the next week or two and see what we can work out.

I haven't noticed any rasp, but I rarely get it above 4k until it is warmed up. I'm not the expert either on that. This is my first performance car of any sort and I haven't had any experience with any other exhaust. I know that these cars do have rasp inherently. It might be that it is still pretty new and that each time I'm getting on it, I'm just thrilled with the entire experience in general (not noticing any particulars yet). I mostly just posted this so you guys could judge for yourself.

I'm still trying to figure out the whole imbedded youtube video thing. I had it working before I posted it though. I'll figure it out one of these days though...

Your welcome, I relish any little excuse to get in and go for a drive; so does Ethan. Every time I hear my car idle I get a really big smile, that's for sure.

You have to post it like this:

[u2b]XnLW0Dc5fNk[/ U2B] But without the space between / and U2B for the second set of brackets.

Congrats, Jim, on a fine purchase. As you get more comfortable with it you will find the most powerband is from 4k and up. Enjoy!

Thanks, I was trying to use the embed button on youtube to do it. That's easier by far.

That sounds good.

I have an Aero Turbine on my pickup. It sounds great with the V8.

What prompted you to go outside the excepted norm (very HIGH priced exhausts) for BMW's and try this? The Aero Turbine's are a hell of a lot cheaper than the normal flavor of exhaust systems.

One thing to try to help with drone is to weld some tabs to connect the exhaust pipes to each other between the muffler and cat areas

That's right, the PO deserves all the credit for going outside of the norms with the exhaust. I like it a lot and think it fits the car pretty well.

Awesome video. Thanks for this. Must of missed your other posts being busy with the holidays and all. Welcome to the Z4M Club! Where in DFW are you located? I'm up near Allen, north east Dallas. A few months ago we had a nice little get together of about 5 or so Z4Ms. I'm thinking it might be time for another. I'd love to hear that exhaust in person.

I was the PO (previous owner- had no idea what that was when I first saw it). My reasoning for going this route was that I had originally gutted out the stock mufflers of the fiberglass. Hoping they could be cleared for a better sound. Negative. After all that work, they sounded the exact same. I had then picked up a pair of MagnaFlows and took them to the shop. The fabricator said they were just as binding. 'Try these resonators'. Being open to try new things, I said go for it. Returned the Magnaflows when I got home the next day and never regretted this move. Turbine resonators, custom bent stainless steel piping, new tips, and labor was all done for $515.00. I was out the door in under 3 hours. Such a great sound and performance that I put one on my F150 which also sounded better than a $1200 Borla steel pipe system.

Good luck, Gents. Don't be afraid to try something new once in a while.

i had an AT25(IIRC) put on last summer and love it. wanted something above the quieter setups available for a non-M. So far, only have this and a BMS PBX. It gurgles and all that: nice rumble under the butt. When I get on it, it sounds nasty. Unfortunately, it renders attention of freeway tough guys(subies, Civics, Infinitis) but I don't care. A bit of a "ricey" mod, but i don't do things for others approval.

Took a while for me to get used to the single big chrome tip vs. dual rolled.

love the vid...

do you have any pics of this from behind and/or underneath? we non-///m folks want to see more! if this can be done for < $800~ i would certainly consider this over the eisenmann alternative... assuming the single-tip exhaust is magically my style all of a sudden.
