Fuel active carbon filter / scavenge pump

Since the z4's over seas don't have these could we remove them without Ill effects or bypass it somehow. Just wondering with you guys that race your cars and remove unwanted wheight or replace your fuel tanks will the car run ok or will they throw a code?

Oh yea we don't have any emission checks here in indiana so I'm not worried about them finding out.
