Caged track prepared weights for the Z4M coupe?
I am remotely considering building my Z4M into a track only car. I am curious about the total curb and corner weights for a fully caged, stripped, and prepared car. I searched a bit, but nothing came up. What's a realistic expectation there if you don't mess with the body panels and glass? Has anyone built a car for NASA racing? I assume it would go under GTS4?

Thanks, but that is not a track prepared car. It doesn't have a cage and other required safety gear for racing; the interior is not stripped; and most metal body panels have been replaced with custom CF parts. I'd like to see some specific numbers on race cars and the classes they fall under in BMW Club and NASA racing.

Kind of an old thread, figured I'd reply anyway. The Z4MC that was run in Grand Am Koni Challenge in '08 was a full on race prep deal. I don't know corner weights, but overall it was around 2900lbs. And they had to add weight to it to meet the minimum weight required by Grand Am - I recall several rather substantial chunks of lead bolted to the floor on the passenger side. That was with no carbon or other stupid expensive stuff to make it lighter. Lots of stuff was stripped off the car.

At ~3080 with driver and fuel at stock power, it would most likely in GTS3 right under the limit, but it sounds like that is with ballast. I'll check with a few people who race in GTS3 to see what they think about how competitive it would be.

Depends how much you willl remove from the car. A full race car with the most of the dash, interior, door glass, and rubberized insulation inside the car removed will weigh around 2500lbs bare. Adding a full cage race seat, and fire system will still keep the car under 3000lbs.
If you are still keeping the car a street car and then it will be probably 3000lbs. Most of the rear shelf stuff has to be removed to install a proper cage in the car. Everything in a Z4 is heavy as with any modern BMW. They are meant to be cushy street car marketed as sports car. There is a lot of weight that can come out. The car would be competitive however it's expensive to build one.

I am inquiring (roughly) about a race car with fully stripped interior, full cage, other safety gear, wing, splitter, lightweight battery, and a race seat, but not messing with glass and body panels (and dash and most wiring intact for the most part as well at this point). AC compressor could go. It would naturally never see street use again.
