Where to buy a new EGT bung? (yes, I searched)

I do not want to cut the EGT bung off of my USDM headers because I need to reinstall them in a couple years for smog. I searched around the forum and the standard solution is to cut it off of the USDM headers.

One post said the bung is 1/4" NPT, 27 Threads per inch; is that correct? I have seen some suggestions for how to machine one (e.g. http://m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=352296), but I don't have a VW wheel bolt lying around either

I figured my shop was going to be able to source this, but it turns out they can't, so I'm going to have to rush-ship as soon as I can figure out where to order today.

I'm going to be in the same boat very soon. I just ordered a pair of CSL headers, and I have been searching for an EGT bung but haven't had any luck. I also don't want to cut the one off my factory headers.

This one specifically?

http://www.amazon.com/Vibrant-Style-...4730933&sr=8-1

The threads don't look the same pitch as the stock EGT mount, and also it would not allow the probe to be in the exhaust flow itself so the temperature could be hundreds of degrees off...

I have already sent an email to ESS asking what the importance of the EGT is for my VT2-500 kit, maybe I really don't need to install it at all. But even still, for the sake of everyone else doing this swap, there should be a real answer to where the right threads can be sourced.

Those are the Oxygen Sensors , not the EGT bung.

Whats a fair price for the EGT bung ? If there's enough interest I have a few VW wheel bolts that I could machine out on our lathe for you guys.

Put me down for one. I'm in to pay whatever the agreed price is.

BTW, the closest thing I've been able to find on the internet is male weld bungs, like these:
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...male+weld+bung
http://www.summitracing.com/search/?...d%20bung&dds=1

But I have no idea what size to get...

OK, it's looking like that will be the best option. Marinb also wants one if we do this since he lives nearby to me. I'll let you know when to pull the trigger; thanks so much for the offer!

Now, about the importance of the EGT for ESS VT installs--AJ reports that this is a "secondary" safety, in that if EGTs get too high they add fuel to calm things down. He highly recommends ensuring the EGT is installed for racing applications/heavy track use, but not installing it should not affect the normal operation of the kit and will NOT cause an SES/check engine light. Good news, in that if I am able to repair my CSL headers and install them this week, the install can be done without the EGT for now.

Actually, they don't. I emailed them today, and they said they don't have any.

Well, add me to the "needs EGT bung" list. Headers finally arrived today!

I don't know what a fair price is either. Someone else will need to chime in with a market value.

Garage List
Makes me wonder what the hell my shop used for mine, if these are so hard to come by? I know they didn't take it off my stock pipes. Maybe that's the cause of my CEL (2C93 - Exhaust gas temp sensor plausibility).

either the bung is not NPT or vw bolts are not correct. No car manufacturer is going to use NPT threads for wheel bolts. NPT threads are an increasing cut thread that contact more and more the more you screw them in up until sealing (and binding).

Vs machine threads that are just negatives of eachother.

I dont believe it's npt, I machined one out of a bolt for
My car and cut a nice seat after drilling the hole and it worked perfect.

Anyone know a clear specification for the EGT "mount point" threads? Probably not strictly correct to call it a bung because it is a male set of threads unlike O2 bungs.

Beedub has easy access to shops that can machine this up, and I really need one shipped ASAP or fixing my VT2-500 install will be delayed by this damn thing :-P.

Do you know the thread specifications with certainty? I've had enough problems with my S/C kit that I don't want to take any chances with it either not fitting, or causing an EGT plausibility code due to being the wrong length/other configuration.
