Did my install last weekend. Decided to forego taking off the bumper cover since I had experience with a previous splitter install a few months back. Had to use 3" bolts in the center section. 1 3/4" spacers custom cut from aluminum stock for me. I accessed through the kidneys and wheel wells. Getting a detail Thursday so I'll post a pic afterwards.

Interesting - I would prefer not removing the bumper clip too.

You want to hear the best part. With the car up on stands, you have to deal with the splitter needing to be compressed to the underside in an angle. I used lawn and leaf bags to increase the compression against the underside to make it extremely tight for drilling.

Dave,

Since you track your car, I would be very weary of trying to mounting the splitter without removing the bumper cover. I just don't think you have the proper mounting strength for the track by only accessing the mounts through the kidney grills. From this position (through the grills), there are five mounting points through the bumper cover and on my car, I could not get my hand to the right most hole, so that only would leave four mounting points.

The three or four bolts w/fender washers that run around the right/left edges cannot be installed without removing the bumper and add so much more rigidity....

My install is so strong, I was amazed. I get no flex in the splitter at all. I ended up installing the rods from the fangs like most others. I thought long and hard about installing them in the alternate internal location but decided on the original front mount for now.

I will be adding two or three rear splitter mounting points when I get home from HI on Friday. I think I have figured out how to do this now...

Just a thought for you...

Thanks - I like the idea - I'll leave the engineering to You and Ian.

Ok,

For all who wanted to know if the splitter would fit on a non-M, the answer is YES. Sorry for the delay..

I only put the splitter on the ground and eyeballed it but the fitment looks real good.

Here is some pics...
