Do LED reverse bulbs give bulb out warning?
Hello everyone,
I used to have these LED reverse lights in my E46s and I never had bulb out warnings. I kept the LED lights from my E46 and I would like to use them in my Z4. Do Z4s get bulb out warning from LEDs reverse lights? If any of you have experiences, let me know please. Thank you |

I'm not going to be of much help, but why don't you just try it and find out... you've already got the LED bulbs. Worse case, you just put the original bulbs back in.

I think it will give a warning, if they do, you could code them to not check.

mind sharing the link to the product. I have a tough time backing out of my driveway at nights since it is pretty dark and I find the reverse lights to be slightly brighter than a match stick!

I found it what I wrote on the mod sheet.
921 68 SMD LED Oct 2010. Do a search on eBay. Any of those will work. So I guess it's more than a year ago. |

What wait year is your z? My e86 doesn't appear to use the 1156 style bulb from the e46.

**UPDATE
The bulbs didn't work in my car . They fit but they didn't turn on. I'll have to look for other kind of LED bulbs Last edited by alfredoporro; 04-02-2013 at 04:35 PM.. |

How very odd. Sounds like maybe a polarity issue, but I would think the center would be positive.
Do you have a meter that you can use to check the polarity of the voltage on your socket? Did you try the bulbs with a 9V battery so see which end is positive? |

What year is your car? I just checked my reverse lights and as others have said here- my reverse bulb is not 1156 size(that is my brake light). The reverse bulb is size 921 on 2006+ cars. Maybe the 03-05's use a different bulb? Last edited by chickdr; 04-04-2013 at 10:52 AM.. |

I have found the reverse bulbs to be ridiculously dim...
So for 06+ I need a 921 bulb, does anyone have any suggestions? That CREE 1156 one looked like it would be very bright. |

What is brighter, one of those 68 led array lights, or the single high output cree led's? I'm not sure of the angle or the reflectiveness of the e85 reverse light housing.

I think polarity is the issue. I have tried several different sources for a correct backup LED, but polarity has been incorrect on all of them. I have verified that the lamp works by hooking up to an external (correct polarity) power source, and the lamps work just fine. But in situ... no joy....I have not yet been able to find one of the correct polarity, and changing the wiring to the socket seems too risky?
