lighted shift knob?
My stock shift knob is wearing and its time to replace it. I'd like to replace it with a ZHP knob but can I get one that is illuminated, like the stock knob?
Thanks in advance

I believe the knob can be removed from the boot, there's a plastic ring that holds it on that need to be cut off. It's much brighter than the stock one, I'd say the color is more amber than red as seen in the night shot of the post I linked.

+1 on the F10 M5 knob pungo suggested.
I have it and I love it. Follow the instructions in the thread he linked. Not only do you get a knob with very bright and even amber lighting, you get a much better boot as a bonus. It's not as hard as it looks to replace. I'm lousy with scissors and glue, and I had no problem with it.

Did the F10 M5 knob. Kept the boot, it has much nicer leather than the stock one. Also, color is a perfect match with the interior so you don't have to worry about it not going with the rest of the interior lighting.
Hope this helps

If you need help with the F10 knob and some pointers on working the leather I have some photos that may help with install. This is definitely the way to go 100%
Outside of wheels, this was my favorite mod. |

+1 for the F10 M5 knob too. Just did mine a couple of weeks back. Nicely weighted and it lights up a perfect colour compared to the rest of the dash, unlike the stock knob (strangely).

I must be dense, I've read through the various threads but still unsure. Aside from the "nicer leather" boot, what is the difference between the F10 M5 knob and the factory lighted knob in my 2006 MRoadster?

Its shorter in height and is a "weighted" knob so generally has a much better feel when you shift.

In addition to being about 1/4 inch shorter, and several grams heavier, and having a nicer leather boot, the lighting on the stock knob is a weak hot-spot in the middle.
The lighting on the F10 knob is twice as bright, and lights the entire top of the knob evenly.

Went ahead and bought the M5 knob from Tischer. I'm very happy with the shorter throws and slightly smoothed out shifting. Here's a comparison shot of the stock knob on top vs. the M5 knob below. Full set of photos and some step-by-steps at http://www.zeleznik-klein.com/z4/fix...nob/index.html
