Z4MC with Aftermarket race steering wheel + Quick Release!!
We installed this wheel setup so that the driver can get in and out of the car easier when you have race seats installed directly to your floormounts.
Current seat setup: Recaro SPG VAC Sidemount VAC Floormount As you notice he is not running any sliders, we removed them since they cause to seat to flex/shift under load, even with a brand new slider the play was already present. There was enough play in the slider to cause the shoulder bolster to touch the door panel. This shifting of the seat gets very annoying when you're at the track trying to concentrate on your driving. Now that the seat is bolted directly to the floor mounts you can no longer slide the seat back to climb in and out of the vehicle easier. So we chose to setup the car with a race hub, quick release, and the steering wheel of his choice. Not only does the quick release help him climb in and out of the car easier but he now also has a great steering wheel with more grip that he can enjoy. This is probably one of the first ones done since no one currently makes a real complete hub kit for the Z4M that is a bolt on plug-and-play kit(air bag resistors/horn setup 100% plug and play). We also wanted it to mimic the distance from the control stalks even with the quick release installed so the hub is shorter than your average hub Last edited by Platfawrm; 06-18-2011 at 05:52 AM.. |

Hub/Quick release is by Worksbell, Steering wheel is by Keys Racing. The hub not an off the shelf unit has been modified to fit the Z4M. PM me if you would like to get setup with a complete kit. Quote:
My friend just chose Keys Racing. Quote:
For those requesting a shot of the seats, here is a shot of the interior prior to the steering wheel setup. |

Not trying to be difficult, but really out of curiosity, what does a removable aftermarket steering wheel do better than the stock one? You lose the airbag and a couple of pounds--ok. Is the airbag a liability when racing? Just curious.

I used to think ours was the nicest (for an obtainable car), until I played with my buddy's R32 GTi's. I think that steering wheel has ours beat as it's texturized, slightly skinnier, and has a flat bottom (gimmicky, but I like it).

this is really old but.....
did anyone ever try to mimic the steering wheel/ steering boss setup show above, i love the O.E staring wheel but after all these years, i think something slightly slimmer , quick release would be very cool and hopefully add to the driving experience teamed with a race Seat.
