New Friend for Skelekitty
Skelekitty's car just got a new friend! After making the big mistake of test driving a Cayman S last March I finally gave in to temptation and purchased a 2007 with 14K miles in perfect condition. The M3--all 3,700+ pounds of it--is gone!
The Cayman S pretty basic--6MT, Bose Surround, Standard Manual Seats (Heated)--but I love it! After being pampered in the M3 and driving the Z4M (which has far less "luxury" than the M3) I realized for me less is more. It's the driving experience and fun that comes with a real sports car I was after. As many of you know, I'd been taking out the Z4M rather than the M3 any chance I could. The Z4M is what a sports car should be--light, minimal frills, agile and nimble, with great steering feel and feedback for the driver. And most of all--light! In other words, all the things the M3 is not. I think the Cayman S picks up on the same themes as the Z4M. Anyway, bye bye M3 hello Cayman S! Anyway, here are a few shots of Skelekitty's new friend. |

Maybe I won't have to fight for my keys on the weekends any more!

You've got it! Let me get a couple weekends of driving in first and I'll do a compare. So far I can tell you that like the ///M with stock alignment it's too understeer happy and needs camber. Great balance though--I just need to sharpen things up a bit to where I like them (typical car set up stuff). |

Great pics, but I noticed one of your "sports car" is missing a LSD?
I kid, I kid. I just love the Cayman S!

Nice. A buddy of mine in Vegas has a silver one. He has been quite happy with it. Nice color combo!

Wow... I knew you were frustrated by the M3 once you drove the M Coupe, but didn't think you would actually make the change that quickly. Cayman S' do very well at the local autox events. I think you're going to like it, but your still going to want to borrow the keys to the M Coupe every once in awhile

They're rivals! When you turn off the light and leave the garage at night, do you hear metal clashing? (They're fighting.)

Nice! I really liked the Cayman when I test drove it, before deciding on the Z4MC. You two have got the best of both worlds now.

Absolutely I'll borrow the keys now and then! While both cars follow the same theme of lightness and excellent driver feedback they approach the road with very different manners and styles. Quote:
I came down to wanting something that was different so we could mix things up now and then. Want something a little different but in the same vein (handling/performance)? Grab the other set of keys! The Cayman also has more room--enough for a Jack Russell and Skelekitty to ride along at the same time (the Jack goes in her travel seat and harness secured to the tie-downs right on the engine deck behind the seats). Can't really do that with the ///M unless you do some major bulkhead "surgery" which I wasn't willing to do. Quote:

haha, yeah. Been trying to get her to look at the Z4M's for resale on here and other sites. Haven't shown her the Cayman yet, I think she'd fall in love with it.

The dealer actually had a 07 Cayman right next to my M on the day when I bought it at the dealership, It had like 250 miles on it and was being sold as used lol, But I really liked it, "almost" just "almost" picked it instead of my M Would not mind having both Nice choice finny!
